As the UK is not at any great war currently, the possibility that you get killed or injured is very low. However, consider that everyone in the UK army is responsible for every single killed enemy -- enemy, but still a human being.
If I liked guns, I'd build a small, wooden cabin in some forest, near a stream, for water, and buy a hunting rifle to hunt for food. If you buy meat, you don't do the killing yourself, but you do support it, which is like you killed the animal you ate. If you didn't buy it, they would slaughter one less, as they wouldn't have to cover the hole you made by buying the meat.
So if I liked guns so much, I'd hunt for my food. We have to eat. This way it's healthier too.

I spent 27 years 11 months in the Royal Navy. Like all aspects of life it had its good points and its bad.

I would suggest that you think about the day that you decide to leave. With that in mind I would suggest getting a Trade behind you. If you are going to join the British Army possibly the REME for Engineering or the Royal Corp of Signals (if that is still going) for Communication Skills or the Logistic Corp etc.

Being in the Forces is not everybody's cup of Tea. Some people excel in it and others hate it. You learn a lot about yourself and also learn how to be a member of a Team.

You will have a lot of opportunities to do things that most people will never get a chance to do. Grasp them whilst you can.

Good luck if you do decide to go down this path.

Pilots are nice but learning how to make it fly is even better, you know, aircraft maintenance.
Remember, pilots need heroes too!!
Take it from one who fixes medivac helicopter for a living in RL!! Pilots don't fly until I say they do!

Dude, you're 16 years old. Most people can hardly make a decision over whether or not they went cereal or toast in the morning at any point in their life... You're looking at joining the forces, and you've literally only just finished secondary school.

A lot of friends of mine thought the same. They thought it'd be a good career path, or they'd get some discipline in their lives, or that it looked like fun, or that they wanted to feel like they were 'part of something'... So some of them joined up. Some of those people ended up in Iraq and Afghanistan. Two of them didn't come back, and the ones that did come home are now deeply unhappy people.

Serving is no joke, and not do be done lightly.
It is nothing *bad* or *evil* , but if somebody in the hierarchy above you decides to send you to *get things done* , you have little choice. And still : every country desperately needs people to do what is neccesary. Just remember : Those in Power rarely deserve the responsibility they have. So... joining service is nothing done *for fun*.

On the other hand : If your in it, go for it.
Take every thing you can learn, every place you can see, and make the best out of it.

But, governments and war machinery wishes for money, money and more money, because money means power. If somewhere is war, weapons goes there and money goes to opposite direction. This is why humans kills each other. Soldiers are only dogs of corporations who kills for their benefit, for some nasty pieces of paper. Czech republic, my home country, is not in major conflict too, but we sends our soldiers, mercenaries to wars which aren't our. And NATO says it is defense, war with terrorism. I have never heard about suicide bomb in Czech, never! So we aren't defending ourselves. We are in offensive position... sad. Don't go to military.

Cut the class of philosophy please. Everyone on the internet is his own type of philosopher. Speak the facts, tell an opinion, no need to copyright from somewhere else. I expressed my opinion is that hard for you to do the same?

P.S. Those conspiracy theories don't appeal to me at all. It is interesting the first or second time you read such rubbish, but it gets annoying when you keep reading it for years and years on forums, where they are being written by some teenage philosophers, professors and geniuses.

But please keep it civil, i have seen constructive criticism, but a "U DUN GO" is a big no-no... some of us we served our respective countries we have expresed our opinions and why of such opinions. please just keep it civil and no a "because i say so" thread
