But yes, it is a design choice, a choice most people interested in the game seem happy with. The amount details helps, which I think is great.

It's sci-fi, it's 9/10 bollocks already. Someone could write an infocard about inertial dampeners and that's that. That's why I believe that "realism" is often an odd concept when talking about sci-fi and computer games.

Believable limitations create a deeper sense of immersion. Sure, you could add inertial dampeners and make everyone dogfight at the speed of light, but to me it's more immersive to place limitations on ship performance and say "hey, you can disable the safeties but chances are you'll black out the first time you reach a 10g turn". Let players decide for themselves whether or not to take that risk.

It'll be better if you earn for it with "hard work" ingame anyway, I think. I intend to use none of the ship I purchased like this when the persistent universe goes live. Plus I'm a hoarder.

Sounds like a Constellation, hm?

Not quite - a 315p (Pathfinder LTI package) and a Gladiator. Are you a backer?

Edit: Don't buy a Constellation now. It's far too expensive considering it doesn't come with Lifetime Insurance (LTI). If you want to fly one, you're better off making friends with an existing owner, or better yet, join an organization (clan) which offers shared ships/resources.

How does ship acquisition work in the game anyways, for those who are on the inside and may or may not know?

How tough is it to get yourself a cozy little ship with some interior room to cruise around in?

I'll definately buy it once it'll be released.

However, I'll never invest money into something without getting a product. So until now, I've just got a "Golden Ticket" that promises some something. One thing bothers me though, that everyone buys their spaceships without even playing the game beforehand. I'll enjoy starting from scratch.

And I have something that one can't buy, and I'll be all special, and wave my special something in front of their faces, saying; I got this for free, and you can't have it.

Also, I'll probably have to build a new computer in December 2015.

They say you can take out a loan to buy a ship but the loan must be paid back. You can fly other pilots ships to earn funds to buy your own. All the details are not set in stone yet.

We have no idea what the price of a ship is like for in-game currency, nor what amount of income you can earn through various activities, so it's anyone's guess.

The cheapest ship with room to move around the cabin is the RSI Aurora (the original starter ship), which has a spacious 1-person cockpit and a bunk behind the cabin for the pilot. I'm sure that it won't be hard to acquire such a basic ship, so the answer to your question is "not that difficult".

I think those don't have any use now. They offered the opportunity to meet up with Chris Roberts and the team earlier during the development cycle.

Yes, I bought the Freelancer, of course! And some other goodies. I'm still a bit annoyed that I didn't make it into the kickstarter because other project took most of my money I was willing to put into unreleased games no matter the amount of trust I have for their developers.
