Since we are on a debate on the Sol system being eradicated by a Doomsday sperm launcher. I for one believe that the 'Extended intro' to be real. However it may have been cut or scrubbed from the real storyline.
Picture this scenario.
Coalition detects the 'Alliance Sleeper/Colony ships launching from Titan is it? The ships headed to Sirius system after breaking the Coalition blockade. After that they attack the last Alliance outpost before our blue mutated sperm shaped creatures appeared.
What we DON'T know is the timescale between the Colony ship launch and the Nomad attack.
What if the Coalition built colony ships to pursue to expand their influence against the 'Allied dogs'? I think it would make a bit more sense then Sol surviving. Lets picture Freelancer 2 as where the 'New Coalition' survives the Sol disaster and lands not too far from Sirius, location debatable)
After so long the Coalition and Sirius houses meet, and off course engage in a new war.
What you think on that scenario, the good ole Russians and Chinese and co survived, giving the Coaltion factions in Discovery something to do.
Wait, what if The Nomads are in between Coalition and Alliance houses? That would be good, they both kinda unite to kill these beasts, then kill each other. Like the Order and Liberty situation.
Actually I've been wanting to make a push for a system or two outside of Sirius. They had the technology to get to the Sirius sector in pods, no reason why it can't work again. Especially with the new jump technology.
Returning from Sirius to Milky Way sounds like returning to United States from Washington D.C. Coalition is gone, extended intro is authentic, and there's no reason to change the story.
Thank you, Igiss. Sirius is part of the Milky Way Galaxy, and the extended intro has been stated as canon by the developers. Even if you think it's stupid, the developers fiat overrules all else.

I have to argue, I apologize. The Extended intro was scrapped in essence, its a bonus feature that was never 'officially' dare I say part of the storyline. While it may be due to its spoilers, can't we think outside the developer box?
Humanity has great curiosity and ingenuity, can't we expand on the non-extended intro? Or create a new history within RP reason? This is Discovery after all, we don't just have to discover the truth or new systems, we can discover the past, and learn new things!
The developers have stated the extended intro to be canonical. Igiss wants Disco to remain faithful to Freelancer canon, so that's the way it'll be in Disco, and we'll be paying heed to the developers, the people who created the game we all know and love in the first place.
This has nothing to do with weather the extended intro is canon or not but just something to note: The music and the voices were temporary. The Radio chatter was sub par and most of the music came from the movie "Aliens." Even the Main VO was redone for the final version.
Not saying it fits into the story or not. Just commenting on the fact that this version probably wasn't meant to be seen.
