It's a challenge. For example, my Xeno picked up a Nomad Battleship Remain from something it killed back when they were somewhat valuable. I kept it and it made people eager to attack me, following which I would kill them. I think I managed to hold onto that stupid thing despite live pvp for several months up until I was banned. Or maybe I was finally destroyed. I don't remember.

These commodities are the same thing but I don't think anybody is going to put credits into buying one just for it to be a reward for the person closest to your ship when it explodes for whatever reason.

The point behind this is simple. Discovery will always be a a community of polarities. Two polarities of those who enjoy different parts of the content it offers.
Some strive for RP, some - for PvP. Why not encourage people interacting with those looking for PvP and, perhaps, even try their best to get to the level of those they'll be actively hunting for?
On a serious note - i quite like the idea, seeing it polished and implemented would be great.

About scooping part: a noob that would scoop a worthy Mark might become a target, so pilots might want to think twice before pressing to scoop some ace's Mark.

Killing a solaris/missile GB that hunts fighters would be even more pleasure.

I like the idea. There will be those out there including my self who wouldn't buy our own. We'd fight for others who were willing to buy them and then sell them off our selves and maybe keep a won one.

Then you've got the issue of Gank that mofo then run off ASAP to tell the mark if you're the lucky buzzer to pick it up. It's not really possible to promote fair play this way as everyone will want a piece of you and they're not going to risk being humiliated in front of everyone. Or well. Some might but thing is I seen pretty much every time in this game with few exceptions people are just blue hungry yet are terrified of their own names appearing on the receiving end. At least in caps that is. Snub community seems more relaxed about dying but they still gank a damn lot which is to be expected.

Trust me I'd love to have a big label which screams at my foes "I'M AMAZING AND I'M WILLING TO BACK IT UP" but if it's actually got real value to it other than merit I predict we'd just have people ganked over the items.
