Queue the arguments and counter-arguments on why faction X should or should not have a given class of ship...

Let's face it, when you have a dedicated star system, you have the resources to build a Navy. The Zoner mindset has never precluded self defense, and you defend a system with a fleet, not with snubs. I can certainly understand Zoners not being the aggressor, but to think they wouldn't defend their own homes is absurd.

If you want to completely do away with Zoners, fine, but, if they aren't going to be nothing more that the Discovery version of wandering Romany in their (other faction) ships, the notion that they wouldn't have the means to defend their assets is nonsensical.

As to Omega-49 and the invasion, it was a travesty by mandate, and it only made sense because the people in control demanded it be so.

No-one with any experience in Marine operations would have believed it because the pre-cursor for it, namely that Bretonia was in such dire military straights that it needed Liberty to save it, makes it a ridiculous notion.

Leaving aside assembling 1.8 million combat troops, there is a requirement for a minimum of 360 (presuming completely stripped down ships) 5k transports to move troops, and that doesn't include the non-combat forces, which, in most militaries, are 3 or 4 to 1. That also doesn't include vehicles, repair parts, foodstuffs, ammunition beyond the individual combat load, etc. Oh, yes, and we haven't even started with the civilian side of things.

The entire thing was PFM.

The 1.8M Bretonian marines would be an overkill even if Bretonia hadn't been in such dire situation at the time. I think it's safe to assume your ordinary House military personnel is better trained and equipped than any force the ragtag locals of Gran Canaria could scrounge up. Not to mention the support of an entire battlegroup (however ancient its flagship may be).

Still puzzled how we ended up with the number of marines equal to more than twice the entire population of GC. An oversight by those in charge of the story, perhaps? Wouldn't mind, if the 1.8M number got retconned a bit (or explained to be Bretonian propaganda).

Fundamentally the entire concept of Bretonia able to fight virtually anything is a complete joke, and you don't even have to look at any real numbers to come to the conclusion. Simply put, they don't have production anymore. Leeds is kaput, and Harris got practically handed to the Crays on a silver platter. They had just exited a costly war that nuked about half of their infrastructure, and their immediate response is to annex a nearby system with military forces. This is in spite of the fact that the government should likely be dealing with the economic, cultural, and legislative issues of losing half of your territory in a single war, and attempting to recoup their losses.

That does not make this thread something to genuinely consider because it's essentially just someone complaining about the right thing, for the wrong reasons.

RP mental gimnastics are sometimes used to justify impossible outcome of events. Just look at Gallia or Tau-31.

Zoner bases are designed to be destroyed or annexed.

i give you that to the iridium ore .. if it is correct because i don't see that on the mining guide, ! Molybdenum is from a house system so i can't land big ships there, and you may say to hire a miner, i and say and what i do if there isn't a miner? yeah!! even so aland is a brettonia base and rho is too far and the core don't like to see certain ships around there, and berlin is closer, uncut to alpha is a secondary .. there are other with more profit but i can gicve that to you!

the other trade ... done that! there are more profit trade routes and even less dangerous!

so 2 or 3 very good trade routes against many and many more that zoners can't do, and a freelancer can!! right!! oh boy!!!!

well .. take care all and happy new year

Yeah, every RP group I have ever belonged to refers to it as being led with fingers up your nose. Instead of the RP driving a conclusion, the GM forces the conclusion regardless of the RP.
