' Wrote:Canasius, you're overlooking something about that incident, if it's the one I'm thinking of...I for one was ordered to stand back as there were already enough forces to deal with the pirate.

I will also stress my opinion again that a few RP words are far less important than getting the job done. Afterwards, yes it is nice to make a few comments, particular given that the loser has survived (as they always do). But on engaging, it wastes time. After some time and practice, some can chat and fight appropriately, but I'm still getting to grips with that and would much rather do the job.

Some people seem to be getting confused about what "role-play" is actually about. It's not about chatting, it's about performing the assumed role. A Police or Naval Officer will not chat with a criminal, they will deal with them according to their operational parameters. In Freelancer, the role-play is about being a pirate and stealing, being a terrorist and murdering, being a Hunter and seeking a pay cheque or just simply wandering the stars in pursuit of commerce or leisure. These are the foremost aspects of the role-play environment. Chatting with your foe is illogical and potentially dangerous if you should instead be readying your weapons.

Yes it is Roleplaying for police to attack pirates and all that but come on you are just trying to make excuses as to why you dont want to RP. and yes Police do talk to crimials am I wrong but do police tell crimials to halt and put their hands up before starting to shot at them. so why cant you all say something like "halt and power down your guns" or some thing as small as that?

I role-play, I act as a Naval Officer by my endeavours to prevent piracy, murder and smuggling. Again I stress, THAT is role-play. You have to look at this from the point of reality. If a gunman is shooting people in the street, a sniper is going to come and put a hollow-point straight through his skull without offering the slightest inkling that they're there. If it's petty crime, fine, but if it's murdering or smuggling dangerous drugs or slaves, the appropriate action is the most important factor.

I see what you are saying about that but most the time we are not killing people we are doing armed robbery yes even with Armed Robbery cops do point guns but dont fire until they see people gettings fired or get fired at them self. the police try every thing to try and and perserve lived including the live of the criminal.

That's great, but the chances are that if a victim trader attempts to run or otherwise makes it clear that they are not going to pay any ransom, the pirates are going to kill them. When I see innocents being killed, as a Navy Officer I have to act and I must do so quickly so as to prevent further innocent casualties. I'm not going to hang around chatting with them whilst they pummel a transport with torpedoes.

Yes, I sometimes see a criminal and shoot on sight, depends what they're doing and what mood I'm in I guess. But I certainly wouldn't be firing upon a fighter from a capital vessel without good cause. Everyone will agree that's just power-play and even ranking military officers will be unhappy with such a vessel wasting what should be valuable ammo or fuel.

RP can be slightly complicated if you wish to do it as a BH, i mean i used to be a bail bondsman in r/l years back and you cant exactly bust in shooting at someone. On the other hand bounties that are issued here are always "Blow this guy up get credits."

In which case RP is pointless, this is kind of sad, if someone has a bounty on them they should be given the option of giving up and being turned in to the athorities where they pay a fine or whatever and you still get your payment as a hunter. This would offer more chances to RP.

I mean its just my opinion but if i got a bounty on my head and 3 BH's show up and tell me surrender or die, im gonna surrender unless i got a death wish. Personally when i go after someone i will tell them they got a price on their heads and open fire, but if there were other options i would give them a chance to give it up, after all no one likes to waste creds on repairs and ammo if they can do it without getting their hands dirty.
