Alas, I have been unsuccessful in beating Dexter. Perhaps in my 70's my reflexes aren't as good as they use to be. I did go back and do some more trading and fighting but can't progress any further, so I have no choice but to stop playing . Thanks guys for your help/advice.
I know 3 ways that could help you clear or skip the mission completely.
1. Watch a YouTube walkthrough of Mission 6 to learn how to complete the mission.
2. Modify the mission 6 .ini files to give Hovis a Gunboat so you can win the race with little effort. You'll find the guide here.
3, Get a saved game where this mission is completed, and play from that point on. One of the people here would be more than welcome to give you their saved game. I would have myself, but I do not have it on me as it's been years since I finished the campaign last time.
There's so much of the campaign left after this. Kusari and Rheinland are yet to be explored. Nomad war arc yet to begin. Then the post-campaign free roam, class 10 ships/weapons. I'd recommend doing one of the above instead of quitting.

Thanks for your input. I watched the U Tube and still failed. It was a question of either walking away or punching the monitor. I nearly removed the game from the computer. Receiving a saved game would be a blessing. I went to modify mission 6 ini files but following Avilla instruction is different to my Notepad layout. I do not have rows 4,6,7.

Thanks Schxer for your help. I downloaded and off course assumed that it went to the right spot. I started the game from Battleship Hood but still lost the race. Put it away and started the game after lunch. Big problem, lost all saved games. Please don't think I'm blaming you or anybody but I lost everything so I have to start again from the very beginning.

I'm back after a few hours away. Well I had a look and can't for the life of me understand what happened. As I said everything was wiped out. The only thing I can think off is that I didn't do something right--what I don't know?

Schxer ------You little ripper, thanks mate, very much appreciated. I originally bought this game when it first came out, loved it but always got stuck with Hovis and put it away for years. I knew it is a most enjoyable space game. Finally now I can continue-----once again thanks mate.
By the way, I love your ship armament.

Schxer, Contrabands, what are they and where can I get my hands on some, I gather they're return a better price. Incidentally I traded in your ship to a Barracuda Heavy Fighter, same weapons but slightly larger cargo bay. Its very nice, only a one owner, with hardly any mileage on it LOL
