Remember that everyone is here to have fun! Sanction is a final resort, not a goal.
I'll add that, OK? It's a mixed verion of the ideas I read here.
Quote:Hi, i`m quite new on the server, but i`m really shocked how stiff, intolerant and unfriendly most of the members of thgis community is. I know it`s supposed to be a server for RPG maniacs, but for god`s sake, the game is called "FREElancer".
I adress the whole community, everyone that has any influence here. You have made soooo many rules, that is entirely impossible not to violate any, when you start the game, and later on. If You think, that everyone will spend hours reading the forum rules, just to play with you, you might be mistaken.
Server is filled with people, that`s why the new gamers come. But you`ve overregulated everything in the game, i cannot understand it. Try other servers and ask, what people say about this one. I`ve heard things.
I hope everyone will understand my concern. I like the server and made some friends already, but too much rules makes players a lawyers. We want to have fun playing a game, lots of it is killed by overregulation.
Have you ever wondered WHY this server has so many people? It's because of those rules. They allow a lot more freedom than you think by giving a 'norm' for people to base their ideas on.
Frankly, it's retarded to see a Bretonia battleship in the Liberty navy using Rheinland and Nomad weaponry. Unless it was some cross-house thing, it just doesn't make sense. Ignoring RP, it just doesn't make Logical sense.
The idea is that Discovery is not simply a game with lots of ships and places to go, it is another world for you to immerse yourself in. While it currently doesn't offer as much as an MMORPG would, it is somewhat close. You stated that the game is called Freelancer. That's right, no arguements there but in Discovery you are NOT playing as a Freelancer (You can if you wish, many don't). You are playing as the role you want and can imagine. You may be in a Navy, you can't use another Navy's ship simply because you logically wouldn't have access to them. These distinctions relate to real life and help reinforce the whole aspect of RP.
The rules are needed to allow that immersion. If you want to simulate real life places etc, you have to have rules or guidelines, much like there are laws in real life.
Otherwise it all becomes meaningless.
The rules give a meaning to all the RP that goes on. They allow it to evolve and strive for more. I've not been here long but this server has definately left an impression on me.
Anyway, that aside, the community might benefit from welcoming members a bit more instead of shoving them under the banhammer.
I think that is great the community is talking about working with others in game. Like many of you have said in this tread, many players don't realize that they may be breaking a rule. This should also ease up the sanction thread as well.
Just be careful on how you talk to that player, as one admin posted in this thread.....
' Wrote:Your suppose to read the rules no matter how long it takes... and then read them again hehe. It took me 50 minutes to read reread and fully understand the rules here. Some of them can be confusing and the no id rule should be forgiven if they are rep fixing and they get the proper ID and ship wihin a day or say. At least thats how i feal about it.
You`re right, but i don`t mean the "server rules" themselves, its obvious we need to have some. But there is a lot of factions, which introduce their own rules, concerning not only their members. Frankly, i think its ok, that cops in Manhattan won`t like my kind of guns and want me to change them, while same demand from pirates in outer worlds make me laugh. THAT`s OORPG imho. Not to mention ship registration. Can you explain to me, why can`t i be an anarchistic zoner, who`se discordian and hates all submission and fly any ship i`d find/capture/buy? How can i be anarchistic character and register my ship? OORPG.
Dont get me wrong, i like RPG, but not when its a fun klilling factor.
I wont go into how, as im tired and can't be bothered. I will say that you can be anything you want to be.
Just be prepared for the way you will get treated according to how
others think you should be. And remember that the game isn't about you.
Oh and welcome to Disco and the Forums:)If you need anything feel free to ask.

Theres oorp ship and weapon combinations if you want more freedom be a merc or a freelancer but.. theres certain restrictions to that as well ask someone else for more details on that. And the ship registration was to stop or control cap whoring and there was RP reasons behind it as well.
Ive had enough of disco for now. I might be back at the next mod release.
The Master of all things cyborg
Might makes right.
True in many parts of the globe currently and generally tends to evolve up to 'civilised' things.
It is however, king on the server. The factions maintain power by exerting it. Why should they be the ones in control? Why should you have to listen to them?
You don't.
However they will hunt you down and make you scream if you go against them.
They have the numbers and the guns. They have the organisation, the funds and the respect. You can go against them but you'll need to get a few friends to defend yourselves in any way. The ship registration not only prevents overuse of the capital ships of a faction (Which some don't like) but also makes it harder for people to stand up to that faction. It essentially clamps down on opposition before it can rise up.
The rules factions lay down have nothing to do with the server rules and are only enforced by the faction. As long as those rules do not contradict server rules (Except if they own the system) then they are free to make whatever ones they wish.
