Project Update

Update: Week 198.2
Profile: Trch. Amy West
Subject: Analysis: Stern

Details

Fields are in place astern, so we've got air pumping back into the halls. It's not perfect, but it's enough that we can work without having to finagle with those bulky EV suits.

Engines felt a lot of pressure during that op. Overstress on the damaged capacitors, emitters that were already fragmented kept sparking, leading to more damage; I'm not surprised she made it home, but the fact that we can even engage the aft propulsion is probably three years of good luck taken up. I'm gonna have the old girl berthed for a good long while until I feel comfortable engaging the engines this close to El Alto.

Reactor's holding up a bit better, but that's not exactly a high bar. There's strong fluctuations in her output, a lot of the reinforcement is just gone, shredded by years of vacuum exposure and lack of maintenance. Not sure I see a dire need to replace it; These things are build tough as hell, but she'll definitely need replacements to the stabilizers and containment plating. There's probably better stuff on the market these days than what she had to begin with, anyway, so it'll be good for her.

Lot of the electronics back there are pretty degraded as well. Panels worn out, wires frayed too. Didn't get to examine quite how bad it is, but I'm not very hopeful based on what I saw.
I'll get a better look tomorrow, though. Still got a few aches left over, but not as many as before. I hate resting, but I'd be doing the girl dirty if I didn't have a clear mind going into this.

Project Update

Update: Week 201
Profile: Trch. Amy West
Subject: Analysis: Stern 2

Details

Tomorrow turned into two weeks from then. Figures.

Got around to looking over the rest of the problem spots the other day, including the EM generator. Amazed this thing's working as well as it is, and doubly impressed the team came back from the initial survey. Damn thing's leaking rads like a faucet, though thankfully it chills out when we pull direct reactor connection from it. Still gonna need to cordon off the zone until we patch it. Gonna be highest priority.

Rad leakage corroded a bunch of shit in the vicinity, as well. To be expected, and nothing a bit of work won't cure. Ate at some of the lining, but I wanted that replaced anyway.
Last holdout section's towards the nub connecting the aft section and the main body. Just a bunch of server rooms and personnel quarters. Not much actual damage here, but then again this areas practically caked in armor. I love my guys, can't stand 'em gettin' hurt.

Gonna check that off as the stern down. Might be smaller stuff I missed, but overall it's looking better than I feared. Gonna need a hazmat team to clear up that rad leak, but overall it's just looking like age and stress.
Nothing a few pints of Holstein won't cure.

Project Update

Update: Week 205
Profile: Trch. Amy West
Subject: Analysis: Midships

Details

Took a good while to get the midships checked out. Lot of points to take care of.

First, that giant gash in the starboard side of the ship. Bleeds right into space without the stasis fields; Still no idea how any of those were still running, but thank Christ they still were. Got a bunch of 'em in choke points for people to work right now. Continued analysis of the hull seems to show she's still got some heft to her. I did use her as a spearhead vessel back in the day, so it's nice to see the armor is still as strong as it is. Not too reassured by all the electronics frying, though. Lots of asteroid impacts and EM and chemical corrosion on the sensitive parts are gonna need to be worked out. That giant hole isn't the only one, just the biggest. Still, it's far from hopeless to work out a solution.

As for the inside, more or less much of the same. Got the bodies out and identified. A lot of names I'm gonna miss, but at least ol' Drake's keeping 'em company in the pits. More corrosion on the hall lining, though that's mostly from vacuum exposure. Gonna need to do a standard rundown for each meter of plating, and across the whole ship is gonna be one hell of a task; Still, I don't expect her to be done overnight.

Finally, last part I was concerned with: CRANE.
I got as many code blockers as I could to keep him contained, and managed to drag him out. He broke through diagnosis mode, but whatever MELS did locked him up good. Probably the overclocking strain from fighting the Incursus. I'm still going through the data, and MELS is helping me understand it. A far cry from my paranoid years when I can't even understand the batshit nonsense that went into my own VIs. God those were some crazy days.
So far, work on CRANE isn't going well. Keeps getting locked in a loop of denial protocol. Might have purged my access codes while it was fighting MELS. I'll have to see about jimmying those back in, but just a minute working on him feels like an hour working anywhere else. Still, I'd rather not give it up; CRANE is linked to every section of this ship. I did most of my code lattice tests with him to ensure the ship ran smoothly, and I'm not gonna scrap him for something else.
Call it nostalgia, or pride. Pride might work better there.

I'll keep poking at it, see about linking in some snippets from the EMCON drives on El Alto. Might have to pull the whole lattice apart, but if that's what it takes, it's what it takes.

Project Update

Update: Week 209
Profile: Trch. Amy West
Subject: Analysis: Bow / Update: CRANE

Details

Jesus, I'd forgotten how much stuff I had planned for the old girl. So many drafts, so much that Liberty cut me off from; I guess I can finally start doing things again, but not with the environment I have to work with. Not right now, at least.

Did get some of the checks done on the bow, though not much to write home about. Compared to the other two sections, this one's pretty damn barren. I did plan to have her drydocked after work finished on Vanquisher, get some of the new scanning stuff in, prep her for operations in the Barrier. God, it would've been fun.

Damage to the front end of the ship appears surprisingly minor compared to the other sections. Aside from a large gash along the port side of the fore armor module, probably from fighting the Incursus, most of the damage is largely superficial. I'm almost certainly wrong on some points, which would track with other projects. Still, it's less overall work to do, and might even give me space to actually install those scanner suites I wanted to.

Also have an update on CRANE, which is coming along alright. Not great, since I'm pretty sure I fractured one of my finger bones after getting fed up the last time, but better than I'd feared.
Opted to pull him onto a separate network entirely with mimic files for reference. Ironic, but oh well. Haven't been able to boot him up since I transferred him, but the links are there. Figure if I keep looking at it enough I'll find something. Just need to find out why he went apeshit.

For now, MELS has slipped into his place aboard. Nowhere near as finely connected as CRANE was; Lot of lattice points missing connections, but MELS is newer so he can easily compensate.
CRANE taking me forever here was not what I had in mind. Still, better to have him secure and worked on than roaming the Barrier in a degrading warship.

I'm gonna look through what contacts I have to acquire parts for the big girl. Wonder if I can get in touch with those weirdos at Cochrane, see if I can't acquire some spyglass node hardware to access the USI. I'd love to have a mobile suite on the ol' girl, even if I have to make one myself. It'd be a headache, sure, but badass if I can manage it.
