You have a Supernova. You shoot supernova at his shield once it recharges.
While you are waiting for SN recharge, his shield is up again.
So you have to use guns, either for hull or for shield. And while you'r shooting, you are an easy target, if he's not a complete noob.
Technically speaking, good bomber pilot has no chance against good cruiser pilot. Period.

And that flying around works only against pretty bad pilots which don't know how to move forward, but stand still.
A Cruiser that stays foot is either AFK or a very bad cruiser captain.

The supernova is capable of firing around 4 seconds sooner than a cruiser shield can recharge from the last shot. That means every other supernova you fire - at least if you hit the target - will hit his hull. The only thing that interferes with that is shield batteries, which are limited in supply.

Actualyl, if you do and manage to stay in the formation tenacity says, you shouldn't have any problem at all using your main guns to stop regen. The problem is that if the target strafes a little bit, you have to keep correcting formation.

Quite true.. You know when? When you have full energy, fire first and wait for the second.
After second one you are completely down on energy and every next recharge for SN shot is after cruiser shield recharges.
You can calculate it easily.
This is for 48k bombers, of course. (both RCat and Falcata being 48k)
58k bombers can fire 1 for shield, one for hull, 1 for shield, 1 for shield, 1 for hull.. Pattern..

EDIT :

Here, to help you out a bit.

48k/2.2k bomber. You fire one SN (38k) and you are down to 10k energy. Let's say Cruiser shield is down now.
You need 28k energy to fire another SN to the hull. That is 12.7 seconds.
Cruiser shield recharges in 11.5 seconds.
So not even first and second one can pull it off.

While 58k/2.4k bomber can pull it off like I said.
You fire one SN, you are down to 28k. Shield is down now and you need only 5.5 seconds (refire is 0.17 anyway, so that means around 6.5) to fire another one.
After that you are down to 0 and you need to wait for recharge for around 16 seconds.
And then it takes some time to lower it's shield again, around 2-3 SN's in order to fire one more to the hull.
It's very slow, yep.
So, either you watched the guy killing a cruiser with Daitos, or you simply didn't see what really happened.:)

It all really depends on how good the guy you're going up against is, how good you are, and what ships are being used. All of the more manuverable gunboats can take on a bomber if they know how to dodge and have at least one missile turret equipped. Without any misiles, your chances of taking out any half-decent bomber pilot just plummeted.

Gunboats are significantly harder to take out with a bomber than cruisers are. Gunboats do not fight in turret mode (or shouldnt, if they know what's good for them), they use engine kill, strafe, and thrusters to avoid fire while launching missiles and using standard turrets to disable your shields. A gunboat can very easily dodge supernovas regardless of what type it is, while most cruisers have a very difficult time dodging supernova shots.

A cruiser can also not use missiles to the same degree of effectiveness as a gunboat - with the sole exception being the kusari destroyer. For capship missile turrets to be effective, you have to face the target, get to max thruster speed, and fire before the enemy moves out of your forward line of sight. A cruiser cannot do that nearly as well as a gunboat can, due to much lower manuverability and turn rate, and much larger size.

Maybe your chances. You are being very subjective in this whole thread, without proper arguments.
Doom uses 6 Solaris btw (as far as I know).

I explained you the math about Cruisers up.
Even with inferno, if a Cruiser pilot knows his job, you stand no chance.
That's how things are.

Tell that to Varyag:lol:

I'll try to explain one thing to you. You have different tactics in this game.
If a GB chooses to joust-turn-joust a bomber, a bomber stands some chance.
If a GB goes in a straight line strafing and shooting from rear view on a bomber - bomber has no chance.
Now of course, some bigger ones like Bret GB or such are easier to take on 1vs1.
But standard GB's (like Rogue, Liberty GB, Kusari GB, Lunchbox etc) simply pwn a bomber 1vs1.

Also, you didn't reply to my math from the last post. How exactly did that Red Catamaran beat a BC in front of you?

I've got no idea how the cat beat the bc, but he did, and there were no other vessels aside from my own in the area - I did not engage because my ship wasnt set up yet and wouldnt have stood a chance in hell.

I'm just going off of personal experience here. It is possible for a bomber to solo cruisers and battlecruisers. Hell, with the exception of fighters any ship class in this game can take on any other ship class with enough skill and patience.

Point is: I've flown cruisers here for a pretty long time and consider myself pretty decent in one, and I've never been able to "easily beat" a bomber pilot who wasnt an absolute rookie to the mod. I've killed a few, I've been killed by more than a few, but every single time I had to work my ass off to even stand a chance.

Perhaps the problem is you.

No it's not... Really... Unless the bomber shield-runs with it's thruster, it dies easily (otherwise, the fight takes too long). Even my Liner can tackle one bomber (I have killed someone in a Praetorian and a Falcata.)

1. Create 4 normal turret chains (special weapons off)
2. ????
3. PROFIT!!!!

Seriously now... My slow, huge liner survives one bomber or 3 VHFs (with 4 chains). My Lunchbox survives 1 bomber and 1 VHF or 3-4 VHFs (3 chains). It maybe another unrelated problem (lag? low FPS?) or you don't thrust away strafing at the same time, siting as a duck eating everything they throw at you.

Yeah, maybe I suck in bombers.

Nah, trust me, I don't.
