Everyone is worried about what ID they're going to get for their trader using the current trade system. *smack* system's going to be changed people.

Chicken-Little is not running around saying the sky is falling, but that's the vibe I'm getting from a LOT of threads relating to the changes being instituted in the next version. Be it ID's for traders, Trade routes, Capital ship restrictions, reputations, shiplines, systems guidelines, or anything else, everyone's worried about how it will "kill the server" or some such nonsense.

The trade ID and it's limitations in the freelancer and zoner ID are designed to weed out those "powertraders". I don't like the term, but I'll use it. If you are buzzing around Sirius in a container transport, Adv. train, or other large (read: >3600 cargo) transport as an independant, non-tagged, RP freelancing pilot, you won't be affected except for the fact that you'll have to get a smaller ship. Perish the thought of seeing Fireflys, BW Transports, and (gasp!) HOUSE TRANSPORTS being used by independent pilots.

I've had a Universal tagged Whale for a couple months now, and have had no problems running cargo through all five major houses (don't go to alpha, no reason to haul drugs). My main route now has 4 stops, carries me through all four lawful houses, takes an hour to run, and makes roughly 25m. Not the best, but all in RP for my ID (nothing gets directly shipped to and/or from direct warring houses) and I see all sorts of action and characters.

Perhaps this sort of trading route and interaction is what Xoria and Kuraine and all those others behind-the-scenes have been shooting for when they decided to take on the task of revamping what had turned out to be a broken, archaic system of trade and ID. If, in the long run, it screws something up, at least an attempt was made to MAKE DISCOVERY A BETTER PLACE, instead of b*tching about the fact that you'll have to fly something with 1400 less cargo.

I'm interested in the pirating aspects of 4.85, with adv trains being limited to the corps, can a pirate in his ZOI destroy a corp ID trader without demanding cargo?

Quote:6.7 All PvP/RP rules listed below in section 6 are void in the following situations:

- Self-defense - level 30 limit is not active;
- Attacker and defender belong to two NPC factions that are at war (Kusari vs Bretonia, Outcasts vs Corsairs, House vs local pirates) - level 30 limit is active;
- Attacker and defender belong to two server factions that are at war (officially declared) - level 30 limit is active.
- In systems belonging to server factions and in Connecticut - level 30 limit is not active;

Quote:6.19 Pirates and terrorists have a right to deal as much damage as they see fit before or after demanding money from a trader ship, but killing trader ship before demanding money or cargo is not allowed. Attacking traders or demanding cargo is not allowed for cruisers and battleships, unless cruisers and battleship belong to Terrorist ID or Phantom ID owner.

Seeing as rules 6.19 is below rule 6.7, it appears that they're already allowed to do so, Akuma.

just a thought - lets add 'Power-Trader ID'

'Owners of this Id are allowed to fly absolutely any ship, with no IFF at all, and dock with any base. Owners are not allowed to RP in any way, and must use the givecash command to pay pirates silently':D

So if I am in a pirate and see a house tagged transport in my ZOI, it's pvp, so I can attack to kill without demanding cargo?

And sense it is an act of war rather than piracy, the pvp rules should apply, right? Which means if he flees he can't reenter that system until I leave or until 4 hours pass, is that right?

edit:

That would be tantamount to terrorism in many people's eyes, not just mine. Attacking any trader you deem worthy of your energy discharges instead of just the ones directly in opposition to your faction.

Question: Would you by chance RP the encounter first or just go in guns blazing?

Maybe not change, but it does need clarification. It's a rare event to get a pvp attack on a trader today, but in 4.85 with the new more restrictive ID scheme the traders will all have pvp attackable ID's rather than generic ones, so like ZOI it should be defined before the sanctions start flying rather than by hit and miss.

As it is now an Admin can sanction you for it if he wants to.

No, because a corporation is not at war with the pirate faction. It is still a trader ID, protected by the pirate/trader rules.

The House (Military/police forces) are at war with the pirates, not the corporations. The United States goes to war, not United Airlines.

Well, it depends. Molly's vs. BMM = Yes, KOS. Rogues vs. Interspace (or any other corp, IIRC) = No, since they're not 'at war'. Hackers vs. Ageira = Yes, KOS. Most pirate factions have one or two specific corporations whom they are particularly hostile towards, though some (like the Rogues, I believe) do not. However, a Rogue spotting a LN or LPI tagged trader could blow them away.

And the reentering rules are weird and I have no idea how to answer that question. I would hazard a guess that while the pirate would have the rule against killing traders lifted when faced with his faction's nemesis faction(s), the trader would still be able to count on other trader-only rules still applying, like being able to come back through the same system over and over, even if he fled or was destroyed.
