Well said, i agree with you RP can be very fun.
My first online game was Ultima Online on german Roleplay server, i chatted there every day for many hours about my and others Nobility descent ^^
' Wrote:The main problem of this game is that new players are often frowned upon, due to the fact that the default name is: "Mingebag". A mingebag is a person who refuses to learn how to play the game, and all he causes is grief to the other players by building contraptions that kill and/or annoy other people. I too was made fun of for having the name Mingebag for a short period of time this also put me off from buying any games in the risk of being made fun of on them., but I overcame these challenges and slowly learned how to play the game from experienced players. I detest a certain type of person the most, even more than "Mingebags", elitists. These people refuse to share their wealth of knowledge with other people for the sake of being better than them. Unfortunately this game has both, but much less than other games which shows that this community is above all others.
As I started the game, I met people who were Mingebags (People who ruin the game for others), Newbies (People who are just starting), Spreaders (People who spread their knowledge to others), and Elitists (People who will not help anyone in order to look better than others). I learned that in the game people do not give you respect by the size of your ship, or the strength of your weapons, but by the willingness to learn and follow the rules. When I found a wiki page I was delighted, I read the history of many factions and most importantly the rules. But enough of info about what I did, now I want to help some of you who will actually read this and not just post blindly writing things like, "Why should I listen to you, you have barely played this game for 2 months.
To the Mingebags: This is the hardest group to talk to, they refuse to RP on the server and plain out make life miserable for the admins (Who already are working their butts off to get 4.85 out), and all the other players. Why would you do this? Does it bring you pleasure to bring down something some people worked so hard to create? You guys really have to mature and learn that not all people like your tactics of calling people noobs. This just makes you look more like a fool. Try to work with other people to learn how to play the game, you may just become a respected person in the community. If the person continues then follow a simple rule about driving: In russian it is called the Three Ds, an english translation is: Give the road to the stupid people. Let them learn for themselves that what they are doing is bad.
To the Newbies: These players are like little children, they learn from the rest of us. We must answer their questions as if they were our equals. Do you see parents saying to their children if they ask a question, "No child you are dumb and know nothing thus I will not tell you anything." Does that really help anyone? This just pushes someone to become a Mingebag. This part is directly to the new players: You guys have to keep learning no matter what anyone says, this just shows that you are better than them.
To the Spreaders: Why can't you Elitists be like these people? They are the people who are truly respected in the game. They help everyone learn no matter who they are. These people are what an ideal community is made of.
To the Elitists: Is there a problem with helping others learn? I see people complain that all these mingebags are the admins' faults or that they are simply noobs. But most of these players are just mad at things that people do to them.
My advice here is mainly to the new players. To learn you must go above the ones who make fun of you and become like the Spreaders. Some things you guys can do is read up on the History of the Sirius system, it will make you more aware of things around you. This can either be done by playing single player or reading about the factions on the wiki. Another thing is to read the rules, these are located also on the wiki. Nobody is exempt from the rules, even the admins.
