but i d hate to be called "unfair" for using missiles.... what is a fair amount of missiles - why - and who makes the call then?
2 missiles? 1? 3? - i know where you re coming from - but frankly.. when i m fighting 3 gun only opponents i ll either dodge like hell - or my hitpoints go down quickly, too.
what makes me a "fair" player in the future? - mounting 4 debs can drain a targets shield by at least 50% in a single pass.... shall we install a gentlemans rule that says "no more than 2 debs"?
the problem is labelling players that use certain loadouts and declaring them "bad" in a very ooc manner.
what about fighters with 4 codenames? - like bombers with 4 archangels - 600ms is hard to hit ... but who am i to say that they are harder to hit than missiles?
Jinx, I acknowledge your wisdom time and again because you speak from good reasoning and mostly from knowledge. However, this time you don't have an argument. Probably because you don't do a lot of PvP yourself (you've mentioned that yourself a couple of times).
In no sense missiles and guns are just the same as far as PvP is concerned.
I fly an Eagle with sidewinder and paralyser, and a Guardian with a sidewinder, it's fun. Stupid often times but fun. One of my other ships is mounting Paralyser, Neutralizer, Sidewinder and Firestalker, but there is actual RP behind that loadout. He's a terrible pilot, worse at fighting than I actually am, so he doesn't use an all gun loadout because he knows how excessively useless he'd be. But spamming missiles is dumb, one careful CD and even a non-vanilla ship won't have much left to fight you with.
Saint Del is considered a holy healer of diseases of children, but also as a protector of cattle.

Not in the current mod version. Guns deal equal damage no matter who fires them or who gets hit by them. There is no 'weakness' to one gun or 'resistance to another beyond shields, which are interchangable and your decision.
Vanilla fighters don't get to 'pick' to be weak to missiles, and non-vanilla ones 'strong' to them. And many people don't have the luxury of picking a non-vanilla ship just so that they aren't weak to missile spam. Missiles are stronger against vanilla and weaker against non-vanilla, guns are even to everyone. Guns are aimed, missiles are just fired and aim for themselves. Yes, there are ways to increase the chances of hitting with missiles, but when 3 RTs fight 1 Sabre or 1 Templar, they can spam without thought and eventually hit him. So how does that make them even in any way?
Once the vanilla vulnerability is gone, you'll be right. They will be even. But right now they are anything but. I'm not saying how many you have to use, but I won't have respect for someone in a non-vanilla fighter who goes to attack vanilla fighters and packs 3 or more missiles, including torps. I could go rape a bunch of vanilla ships that way to, but why? To get some easy and cheap kills?
EDIT: I'd like to say this again because people have kind of misunderstood what I'm saying.. If your a vanilla fighter, I don't care how many missiles or torps you use, because its fair for you and your opponent. Your just as vulnerable as your opponent is, and no one has an uneven advantage due to the lack of ship explosive balance. So using an Eagle, like Del, is fine in my opinion.
well - alright, i gotto admit, i had .... let me try to remember......... zero pvps with "jinx" in the last 5 months.
but i have been fighting opponents with missiles and sunslayer as a BHG. - and when all my equipment got ripped apart - it wasn t the opponents fault to mount and use the sunslayer and cannonballs + paralyzer... it was my fault that i wasn t flexible enough to do anything but joust.
i had ( some time ago ) a fight on Clover against a BAF challenger. - i had 4 debs and 1 firestalker + 1 cannonball mounted ( a standard loadout for me sort of ) ..... i easily drained the slow fighters shields... but had no chance hitting him, cause he started to dodge.
now, i agree - the bad part is.... if i had forced to fight it to the end, this fight would have lasted for a long long time, cause he could have dodged leaving little time to use hte missiles ( my only way to damage his hull ... and i was in a chimera at that time ) .... i easily outturned him, but firing the missiles into his back was a waste of ammo..
so after about 10 min and a few unlucky shots - i simply retreated. - no point fighting such a battle to the end... and a fight were no one dies is still not a lost fight.
i DO think that the use of any weapons loadouts - no matter how extreme it might be ( like 6 cannonballs as a support ship or whatever strange things you may see ) is OK. - in certain situations it may be annoying or even vexing to fight such an opponent - but then.... i d say, this person has just had the good fortune to come with a very efficient loadout.
i would never dream of yelling at a player that used all missiles ( even if i wasn t doing the same thing anyway ) --- but then, i do retreat quite quickly, too - and i hardly ever let a battle last longer than 20 minutes.
the question is - where does it end. - personally, i have a much greater problem with bombers mounting 4 heavy codenames or 4 coladas. ( problem in terms of.... it causes me problems in a fight )
edit:
@Dab: would it be OK then to use 6 missiles in 4.85 - where all ships are equally vulnerable? or to use 6 missiles in a vanilla fighter vs. a non vanilla fighter - is that OK?
Hell Dab Ive got loads of vanilla fighters carrying missiles, Eagle, Sabre Guardian etc. I know your not having a go at ppl flying these ships, but its not a players fault if he brings a non vanilla fighter with missiles, it's the mods, and it's soon to change so we all win.
Yes I have a RC with 4 missiles, I was using missiles here while everyone considered them useless. Load outs should be in RP but also unique, if someone wants to mount 8 missiles on a RC then kudos, I'd have to question their sanity but if they wish to do that then that's up too them.
anyway 2 cannons is most deadly thing I ever saw... SNAC can be easily dodged, mini too but if you are out od CM and CD... you are dead no matter what:)
