I think the alliance before 4.84 was just stupid yes, pretty much in the same way as Blood Dragon-Outcast alliance was.

That said I have to agree with this:

' Wrote:There is also now the little matter of the fact that the Outcasts and the Nomads have become quite chummy. The OC worship the Nomads after all, so it makes sense that the Order would ally with a group actively opposed to both groups.

But that would mean that the alliance should first start in 4.85.

but what we can always remember, is that that alliance is in canon so we can't change it whatsoever:D

I'd rather change the Order's vanilla alliance with the hogosha first, what's up with that? ;D

Lets list all of the Corsairs' allies. Now lets list all the ones that actually have a regular playerbase. Compare that to the Outcasts... and there you have it.

Besides... who says the Artifacts are even dangerous? (Propaganga aside) If I remember right, a large majority of artifacts aren't even active. Sinclair said something about that. With the Outcasts, Bounty Hunters and Nomads all in the Omicrons, except for the lazy Zoners, the Corsairs are the next logical option.

Maybe they did it to "keep an eye" on the Corsairs?

Come on! Be free!

It's not and I don't know why you would assume that. Both my initial posts and every other so far were made in very mild tones. In fact, I not only think the question in itself is reasonable, considering some of the oddities pointed out, but also a chance for all Order players to think outside the box and reassess their roles and motivations. If I played an Order character I know I would by now have gotten some valuable hooks for differentiation and deepening of my character's perception of this one alliance and even of how I could interact with everyone else.

For example, the same way the Nomads infiltrate the government it would be interesting for the Order to try and do so themselves. As part of the RM leadership I would like to be contacted someday by the Order saying they would like to place one of their people amongst our pilots, to better keep an eye on the Wild situation in Rheinland. Many may think that Rheinland deems the Order as criminals, but in fact, the RM and the Bs have been allies in 4.83. Neither me or my character think that the Rheinland government is completely free, even now, of the Wild influence, but after what happened during the Nomad war, there's also a great deal of wariness inside the Rheinland government against the Wild and Nomad threats that there's room for the Order to approach them.

I'm not saying, "Dump the Corsairs, come to Rheinland." I'm just pointing out one of many examples. I'm speaking of Rheinland because I know some about it. The Order's RP can be broadened a great deal in focusing on the various aspects of their primary mandate, which is fight the Nomad threat. I'm saying that you should embrace that with tooth and nails. You don't have to just wait for the Wild and Nomad factions to show up. Have you ever considered tracking down and taking/robbing all of the Nomad Power cells all sorts of people around Sirius display as trophies?

Another example, I would very much like it if right after the Wild characters poor out of the Sigma-13 jumphole into New Berlin, one or two Order fighters followed suit to repel them. At least once.

Another example, I understand that you will try and not spit onto your alliance with the Corsairs, but how about having some secret agents and, every now and again, stop some randomly selected Artefact transport because you "know" one or some of those Artefacts is dangerous.

Anyway, my initial intention wasn't at all come up with ideas for the Order players, but try and have a better understanding of an aspect of their existence that I thought to be questionable at best. Rather than feel threatened by this discussion, why not use it to your own benefit. Hell, I know I wish I had some of the more reasonable thinking minds of Discovery occupied of analysing and perhaps even tying the lose ends of my own NPC faction's RP. Don't you think it's refreshing that you have the opportunity to look to your own faction through different eyes?

Don't feel threatened. Embrace the light! (pun intended)

EDIT:

Who says they are not? That's precisely the thing. There's room for reasonable doubt there, because, as the infocard says, nobody can really say what their function is. As Jinx pointed out, most of them may very well be just trinkets, but as the SP showed, one of them was one of the very keys to handling with the Nomads, how about another one being the key to unleashing them, or worse, some other of the Dom'Kavosh (I never know how to write this) left over toys. The main issue is that there's a vast room for some reasonable doubt and as is, most Order characters seem to pay no bidding to that. Even if the alliance with the Corsairs is one for keeping an eye out for the Artefact trade lest something dangerous fall into the wrong hands, I don't see that portrayed at all by Order players and I consider that, if anything, they are missing out a great opportunity to expand what they, themselves, claim to be a somewhat limited RP.

What about the Hessians? I can see why the Zoners wouldn't be a good choice. The Zoners aren't interested in being in the radars of House governments. They want to be able to go anywhere without hindrance. If they allied themselves with the Order, they would lose that status in some places, specially Liberty.

That is one of the best RP ideas I have heard in a while... *thinks of a new character*

Personally, I think the Corsair / Order alliance is fine. The Order wouldn't want to have another enemy in the Omicrons, and they have lots to give to each other. The Order gets protection and lots of manpower, while the Corsair gets some seriously advanced tech.

I think it may be a starting point. In fact, will the Talon, or any Order secondary VHF for that matter, be still available in 4.85? *ponders*

By the way, I see SwissScorch here, but where's Tenacity when we need him?:D

I think the alliance between tham has always seemed stupid. But i like how the Outcast/Nomad Alliance has been thrown in there as some sort of excuse now. It used to be the Blood Dragon/Outcast alliance. Now thats gone it going to be the Outcast/Nomad relations. Its any excuse to hold on to the alliance that realy should not exist. I never even thought of half the stuff Gronath pointed out and even before that i thought it was wrong.

As moderator I'll just ask that the people involved in the discussion refrain from the more snide comments. I trust we can all formulate our arguments without resorting to them. Even though the original intent of the thread wasn't, as Eternal put it, a bash against the faction. It see that it can quickly spiral out of control and become that.

So, please, enhance your calm, John Spartans.

I'm guessing Igiss, or whoever made the call, saw that Corsairs had almost no allies (nearby). Hogosha/AFA miles away in Kusari, Gaians miles away in Bretonia, and neither of them are focussed against the Corsairs' main enemies.

You had the Corsairs with no friends close by, the Order with no friends close by and much like when you see 2 lonely kids, pair em up as playdates.

As for the RP justification, I don't see any -huge- holes in logic. The Corsairs are certainly less of a threat than Outcasts for humanity (with their Cardamine), they're certainly large enough to be useful, and Corsairs hate Nomads and Bounty Hunters. The nomad/outcast relationship is only a recent added bonus.
