I think the rules would have to be amended if this were added, I do think it would be worth it for carriers to actually be carriers though.

Secondly how come it seems like whenever someone posts a feature from another mod that they would like to see in discovery they are not appreciating discovery. I dont see these complaints when ideas that arent known to be in other mods are brought up, or when it is not mentioned they are from another mod. Im not trying to pick on you here Sindroms, I have seen others do it as well and frankly I just dont get it.

If I see another person saying about the 'What if the carrier logs off?' question, I might strangle them for not reading posts.

All the issues with player carriers have been solved.
It all works.
No problems.

Only issue that apparantly has been sighted occasionally is some lag but that needs proper testing since it's very sketchy evidence at the moment.



The question is though.
Is it needed?

Most enemies are never more than 1 system away from each other and can easily just travel for 2 minutes to get to the place they need to be.

However, carriers could serve as mobile support platforms, re-arming etc Bombers mid fight (Adjustment to server rules would be needed but that is not much of a problem) and generally serving as a place for the ships to repair etc.
You might say 'Then fights would go on forever!'
Shoot the damn carrier down, then mop the enemy up.


So yes, all in all it is 99% working and possible, just needs some larger scale testing to be 100% sure.

That's quite a pessimistic outlook don't you think?
The only thing the Discovery community has to do is test and see if they like it or not. Heck, we are already in the Beta stages of a new Mod and people are voicing their opinions on what the don't and don't like.

As for implementation, the Bretonian-Kusari war has already escalated to the point where Kusari has successfully put a foothold into Bretonnian Space. Thus, making a carrier more prudent in operations. Also, with the Liberty-Rhienland war starting to heat up, forces are going to start to build along the two systems that border them. The Carriers are going to be the ones that maintain the Fighter and Bomber Squadrons.

Though all in all I like the idea... the carrier would need an option to accept or decline docking permission.

I think carriers by nature are more suited to an enviroment like Starlancer, where there are few planets and space stations, and fighters are short range, thus requiring a carrier to move them around. While in the Freelancer enviroment, there are many bases and planets pretty close together, fighters are long range.

Is it an awsome idea? Yes.
Does it fit with Freelancer? Not really...
Is it necissary? No...

I vote that this idea should only be implemented after all the important features in a mod update are finished. No point wasting time on something we don't really need when there are more important things to work on.

As a substitute... you could just Roleplay docking with a carrier, and enter into formation with it. This is a roleplaying server after all.

In 88 Flak, battleships/carriers (large capital as they are known in 88 Flak) are an essential part of any assault force. It doesn't really have much to do with actually carrying fighters anywhere, but for providing support for any fighters operating nearby. A large capital is a support ship. While it excels at taking down other capital ships, especially other large capitals, it is useless against anything smaller.

This creates an interesting dynamic whereas you can either leave the large capital on the fringe of battle to give fighters a place to land and re-arm, or you can bring them front and center to help take down the enemy's large capital which is supporting their own fighters. Once the large capital goes down, the fighters are on their own, and are out of support.

As for gameplay oddities. To my knowledge it all works very well. If the large capital you docked with dies/logs off/etc. You will respawn on the last base they docked with. So for example if you were in a fight, and docked with the large capital, you will respawn off that large capital when you die. If that large capital is destroyed/logs off, you then respawn at the base where they last docked.

The only thing I remember that would sometimes bug up was when a carrier goes to another system with another player in dock. 90% of the time this would work fine, and when you undock you simply are transported through the appropriate jumpgates and then undock from the parent ship as always. However it would occasionally bug up. This usually does not even happen in the first place though because most people don't stay docked on large capitals for any longer than needed to rearm and repair.
