Wow! I'm pleasantly surprised to see all this feedback.
Since this idea seems to have already caught some attention, I'll try to elaborate before introducing the other idea.
Now, let me make it clear, I don't intend to grow this idea into a full-fledged faction single-handedly; these are just rough ideas that perhaps somebody interested in pursuing this can work with.
With regards to ID's, given the inter-House nature of the movement, I would probably say either Zoner ID, since they are politically neutral (although somewhat problematic because they're usually not political, with the major exception of Zoners Against Slavery), or Freelancer ID, since there are no real Freelancer factions to speak of at the moment.
With regards to the idea of intervening in Omicron Theta... haha... That could end up being a highly risky operation, to say the least. But it would certainly be a lot of fun, even if it ends up with all of us getting pew-pewed to death. Again, this will ultimately be up to whoever takes the idea and runs with it.
With regards to our interactions with Police and Military factions, we would definitely cooperate with one of our members, perhaps the most vocal, or the leader, being hauled off to prison during a protest; it would make great RP and create martyrs for the cause. All they would need to do is say "John Smith, you are under arrest. I will now escort your ship to Sugarland/Fuchu/etc." and lead the way. If the police factions demonstrated their willingness to interact with us by hauling one of us off to prison without levying a large fine (hippies are too poor to pay millions in fines), we would reward their good RP by moving the protest somewhere else. Of course, we would still publicize the imprisonment, but it wouldn't look as bad for them as if they had outright killed the man.
Now, Zelot, you make some good points. If the government chooses to restrict our activity to a certain area, I would leave it up to the leadership of the movement to decide whether to ignore it or not (I'm guessing we would, at the risk of getting arrested). I actually think that RPing getting arrested, so long as we are escorted to a prison station and not merely told, "4m fine or dai," would be great fun. Again, we would not spam system chat. At most, we would send out a systemwide anti-war slogan occasionally, and focus mainly on local chat (but wouldn't spam local, either).
This faction would almost certainly annoy the police and military; that's kind of the point. Our goal is not to ruin their RP, but rather just give them another group to interact with other than pirates and smugglers. We could possibly make things even more interesting by working with other factions (like how wobblies work with the communist party). But that level of detail would be up to the movement's leadership.
In short, although we will likely be persecuted, arrested, or killed, we would have fun doing it.
I think I could work, but keep in mind that some governments (namely Kusari and Rhineland) control the media and could violently suppress you with out much trouble, unless you brought an independent CNS ship along.
Well, it all starts out small, and slowly. The burner temperature goes slowly up on the pot of water. And then, they kill ya when warm turns to a hot, spring of gushing water. Remember, I'm not for this, but it would be interesting to have something like this in-game.

Oh, I would love to see them try it. I'm not sure who'd laugh hardest, but I think it'd either be SOB or OPG. In fact, if it was just those two factions at the time, I'd wouldn't be surprised by them having a competition to see which side killed more of you.
I'd say Freelancer ID/IFF. The Zoners don't get into the affairs of the houses, and I'd wager there's a good number (mine included) that outright hate them - mine even enjoys watching them kill each other out in the Taus.
If it's done well, this'll be a decent addition... if it's done poorly, I can see people jumping at the inevitable bounties on your LFs and Freighters. I advise you to keep an eye on people that join, as it's very possible to irritate lawful players by exploiting game mechanics; you may want to annoy the characters, but the players should still be having fun without dealing with incessant taunting they don't actually have any power to do anything about.
On the ship note, good idea on LFs and Freighters. I would recommend Arrows, Griffins, Tiger Sharks, and X-Shuttles. Tiger Shark because that's a Rheinland civilian ship, and I'm sure you'll have members from Rheinland. X-Shuttles because they're one of the few generic freighters, and one made to house a group of people. You wouldn't exactly be a science team, but hey, it works.
Not sure if this has been brought to your attention, but as an officer of the LPI I have to inform you that if you or any of your members were to directly interfere with police business, say cutting a trade lane while I was trying to stop a smuggler... I personally would not hesitate to open fire. (Infact I have fired on people who got in the way before)
I just dont see how you expect to cause a scene if you dont have the firepower to stop the police from sending you all home in body bags...
then again you could always stay out of the way and protest verbally... but that gets boring I'm sure.

If you kill a protester, then the faction would simply step up its efforts, not to mention a media firestorm and a word from its laywers.
This is not going to get derailed just because it will bother some LPI officers; that's an expected response.
I like the idea of an almost Robin Hood type faction. However, I feel you are going to get violent with the governments. After awhile the government will get fed up and declare fire on sight. Certainly you have the cash for maybe a IMG cruiser? But I like the idea.
Edit: The cruiser wouldn't be used for PvP, but rather in an event that the Navy declares to fire on you, I mean, you can't have a turkey shoot. You have to put up some type of effort.

See, the idea of having kind of a mobile headquarters that won't blow up after two shots from a deb is good, but the Freelancer ID is very restrictive in that regard.
Again, I envision this faction as being one that avoids fighting back as much as possible, even if we do become KoS. But details like this will be up to whoever formalizes the plan.

I'm sure that if you proove yourself worthy enough, they'll let you Special RP one...
