Lob a nuke mine equivalent in a straight line with lowish speed, no proxy 'splosion, using ammo or with great reload time. </strike>
Question is - who would mount it, and what does it add. meh.

I would rather see current cap weapons improved rather than adding new ones =/

Basically, this 'rail gun' concept from the first post is exactly what capship missiles currently are - except the missiles can track.

switch the morter to a MAC gun type thing mabye? (essentally a rail gun but it can be more easly rped as you can slug anything you can put whatever tip you want on it(tacyon HE antimatter ectra)

you can just rp that the morter is a artillery cannon. or something like that.

what about reall nuclear torpedos for caps?
Cruisers and up.
I mean we could use the normal missiles improve the damage radius and the speed and the damage but make them ammo using. For me it would be a better thing than another weapon that works with energy.

I'd like to see some kind of mine that takes 30 cargo space, is only allowed to be mounted on fighters, fast fire rate,(basically, takes ammo, and each ammo takes 30 cargo space, so you can only buy 2 ammo) and to use it, just fire it twice(so that it'll take a fighter shield down then the hull). It has a massive effective radius and tracks the ship that launched it instantly. It's essentially a kamikaze mine, and can take out a squadron of fighters, however it should mount on the shield slot so that fighters with it are very easy to kill, and it takes a lot of energy, so fighters with it are only for this purpose.

I've always wanted an option to load your ship with explosives and run into an enemy. The mine should have a relatively small radius though, so you can't just drop it and run.
The ammo should be cheap, but the launcher should cost about 5 mil or so, to bring it inline with the supernova. It should only insta kill fighters though, maybe take down a gunboat's shields. It would obviously be available only for terrorists and maybe AI's though.

we need Ion cannons, or EMP Turrets.

Navy: your dead in the water now you pirate filth, be smart about this and surrender
Pirate: never you filthy pigs, *covers comm* Bilkins get the systems back up
Navy: you pirates are all the same...no brains

no but seriously, we should have them on capital ships, without cruise engines, like the dreadnaught or BS...that way in a fight, you charge the weapon, and either a) disable the enemy ships to enable you to retreat, or b) disable the retreating ships, and force them to concede


the Ion cannon could be implemeted on the Liberty cruiser, as it would replace its main cannon, but the down side to ships with this, would be that 1 shot, completely drains all power.

you could even make it so that it had a timd recharge, lets say like cruise engines, but slower...that way, you would have to choose when to use it and when not too...I.e. if you fired it, and knocked out 3 cap ships, and a fighter, but left 3 gunboats intact, you die, because you cannot fire again till system reset

adding on to commodores post about mines, i would like to see a mine layer ship class, lets say, the mine layers would be about the size of a turanic raiders freighter, and the mines would be scaled down versions of the ones around bases and zone 21....also, the mine dropper on the ship, would be unlimited, as far as ammo, like the supernova, but require time, lets say 15-30 secs to actually lay...and you would have to be dead still or you might blow yourself up, due to a sudden jolt...


think of it:

you could endlessly RP, and factions/pirate groups could RP it

example:

CHaracters:
1 Pirate Cruiser, adrift in the scrap field outside manhattan
2 mine laying ships, deployed to set up a hasty defense, until repairs to said cruiser are made
4 pirate fighters, on patrol

2 liberty gunboats, dispatched to investigate rumors of a pirate cruiser lurking around manhattan
4 LN fighters called in for back up

i mean with that, you could set up the mines(they would disapper after the player in the mine layer logged out) and RP...

Navy GB1: there she is mates, intel was right for once, a rogue destroyer just adrift out there....looks like she sustained some engine damage....
NavyGB2: looks like there is some heavy activity around her...wait...wait they are setting up a minefield around her....look out GB1 fighters inbound
pirate fighters: this is Pirate leader, all fighters drive those gunboats back, do not engage them outside of 6 klicks from our destroyer, she is valuable...
pirate fighters: roger Lead
Navy GB1: this is GB1 i am taking fire, require ass.....*comm static*

Edit: also you could RP a building of a base in some remote system...would make a great RP fight, like Bounty hunters in the badlands setting up a supply depot, rogues dont like it and mount an assault

other than no tracking...rail gun should use little energy compare to Missile turrets..and motar that kind of stuff..
