The Fafnir you don't need to use its guns all that often unless your dead close to an enemy. Use it for the SN+Nova combo more then It is a great support ship against Caps granted you have someone in a smaller ship with you that has a CD. Without a CD, it can get very hard.
Stay at 1k and pummel the Caps.

the whole point of the fafnir is to be a team ship. its not ment to have a cd and to torps. if it did....then it would be over powered. it would be a bargehst, with better power and shields.

the point is that if you want a nova+ SNAC on a bomber. you dont expect people to stop because you dont have cd's. get a freind in a LF or bomber who does.

good bomber only wing: bomber 1: SNAC+TCD bomber 2:Nova+SNAC bomber 3:nova/SNAC+TCD

No... It would be a Bargehst that is completely useless against fighters and perfect for blockade work.

That's exactly

what I'm talking about - if the 2 turrets were 360 turnable it still wouldn't be a serious threat to any
other player fighter but it could defend itself agains npc's a lot better then with just 2 guns firing
for- and backwards.

And I don't know who said that, but the Fafnir cannot mount a transportshield "just" freightershields".

What do we want?

1. a 3rd slot for CD's only

2. turrets firing 360


That's about all that is needed to make it more usefull without having it helplessly overpowered.

yes - its a freightershield ( 24k i think ) - a transport shield would be a "little" too much ( 100k or 35k )

and we agreed not to spin the turrets forward to not only make it "no serious threat" to fighters.... but to actually make it absolutely "no threat" to fighters.

btw. - the FA bomber ( a small bomber ) has got 2 guns + 2 turrets 360 degrees. - it does fairly well against fighters. - and is more than a mild threat ... actually it does just as good as any other bomber, except it cannot mount 4 codenames or 4 missiles.

Is it possible to make slots that are, say, Turret or CD? For the case of this ship, what if the turrets were made to be closer to 360, but were of a lower class and also able to equip CDs? Class 3 or 4 turrets would give it less overall firepower, but they would be usable in more directions. Then if they had the option of a CD and took that opportunity, they would be even worse against fighters, but more flexible in protecting the borders.

I dunno, as I said elsewhere, I'm in a thinking creatively sort of mood today. :crazy:

Fafnair is how bombers should be, awesome against caps, not at all useful against fighters... It's SN spamming ability is simply amazing, it can dish out 16k damage per second, while normal bombers only manage about 8-10k... You can basicly have just one in your group and any cap is in deep trouble.

I hate the agile little bombers, that tear 5 fighters appart, just because they are able to keep up the dance with a fighter.

Well,

I see your point(s) and from that perspective I must confess I do have to agree (mostly),
but a 3rd turret firing 360 wouldn't hurt the balance but would make it more
"effective" against npc's. (I mean it could withstand their attacks somewhat longer.)

How about that? Doesn't this sound as it's a proposal worth thinking of?!

I think that would be a good compromise, so it would have 3 guns firing for-
and backwards and as it can just mount 2x cl. 9 guns (other bombers can
mount at least 4 cl. 10 + 2 cl. 9 in most cases) it still wouldn't be a threat,
not to talk about a serious one, to other fighters/bombers.

Oh yeah, and a 3rd CD-slot only would still be nice, but if I had to chose I'd go
for a 3rd turret if I can't have both.

Edit:

And you must not forget about its price, it's almost 15 mill, that's more then twice
then any other bomber - and compared to this it's higher poweroutput does not match
the huge difference of the price as it's just 2 guns, and is a way bigger target and less
agile as well.

Gotta admit, the price tag is a little exceptional for what it is. It has the same number of weapons options as a bomber (2xTorp/CD), loses 2 guns and gains a freighter shield.

From my experimentation with it, it is an excellent candidate for the SN/Nova bomber in a Nova/CD pairing (with the Snubnose as the CDer), as it has not only the core to support the heavier firepower, but the toughness to unleash it.

I agree with the sentiment that it is how bombers should be, but I think 15 mill is a little too much in comparison to "normal" bombers...maybe slash it to 8-10 mill? Slightly more to make up for the fact that it has a larger shield capacity and more regens, but not too much as it loses any anti-fighter capability.

I think even the Recycler (which also has a freighter shield, but has superior forward firepower, similar maneuverability, a smaller plant and similar regen pool) doesn't cost as much.
