The old trailer and 2001 E3 trailer of Freelancer shows some of the feauters that were later axed from the game. It is only a guess but I think fights in the athmosphere (At 2:07 the part when the Defenders nose begans the heat up and opens it's wings) of the planets as well as on foot action was planed but never finished.

Sorry for derailing.

Unless you can dock to this modified dyson sphere environment via the docking rings and somehow manage to visit the different shops with your ship in a true city like environment, the one you can see while you're docked with one of the planets. So.. well until that, I am against it.

I like RP, where R stays for Role, not Retard.

This is a really good idea.
Problems:
-ejected cargo un-realisticly floating about - well... not too much of a problem
-blown-up ship parts flying without the pull of gravity - they dissapear soon enough anyway
-if NPC's/player touch the ground, what happens? -they die
-restricting Capital ships and transports that can't keep themselves in the atmoshere out - hmm
-if someone jsut cruized off the map, what would happen? - Just make radiation get really bad at the end. Youll die when you reach the end of the map.

Well, it could be done once Microsoft releases the complete source code for Freelancer. Then maybe it could be changed to 'Freelancer 2 - Discovery' with the above stated features!

But it would take a long time...

firstly - you may have noticed, its just a starscape - you never get close to the surface. - so any station you got in a system must still be "floating" high above the ground.

if freelancer supported different physics - like adding horrible manouvering for warships in low atmosphere, but good in space - but adding larger fighters with wings for good atmospheric steering it could at least add something, but freelancer doesn t know anything of that sort.

so it would be a nice eye candy - without any further use other than possibly empyting systems of players and adding more confusion to police chars that need to police more systems now.

I think you missed the point... he wants stuffs on the floor of a dyson sphere... not on the background of the inside of the dyson sphere...
