WOW! These are really good! I especially like the first two.

Hope these get accepted!

It actually is an entirely different texture, made from a photo I took some years ago. I admit it's too bright, but the backgrounds I posted here are by no means a final submission for the mod. These are just examples by me to prove that changeing starspheres is possible and makes sense.
I also am well aware that any experienced dev on here is able to do this in a more professional way. I just wanted to give the topic a major bump.

' Wrote:I fully support this if the new spheres are consistent in look with the old ones and they include the same features as the others. For instance I want to be able to see the walker nebula in the proper place in the star sphere in languedoc and any other system it would be visible from.
Actually, what you request complicates the process.
Including known elements such as the Walker or Crow Nebula or the Barrier is possible - but it requires a complete starsphere-creation from scratch with Treewyrm's above-mentioned method, if you want to have them in the exact and correct place. We'd need modellers for that (not saying we don't have any, just that it'll complicate the process).

The Languedoc example; even the vanilla starspheres don't always have all the nebula from the Sirius sector visible. Currently, it's visible in Languedoc because that system uses a vanilla Bretonian starsphere (if I am correct) - the Walker nebula appearing in Gallia is not a top priority, in my opinion - it's the other side of Sirius and you don't see Walker in the Taus either if I'm correct.

About the Manch/NL star; it's the only point in the game where you clearly see a brighter star directly through a gate, I think. Including landmarks as the Nebula is extra work, but possible - and makes sense. Including stars that happen to be exactly behind the middle of a jumpgate is just a major pain.

Don't misunderstand me - I too would like to see refreshing but consistent and fitting starspheres - and those for Gallia should contain a certain (colour) theme, of course.
The thing is, we don't have the same means as Digital Anvil, so I think we should start out with simple things - such as finding fitting and nice themes for new starspheres.

Yeah, I understand that all these things might not be visible from certain systems. It would be nice if they could be from some that it is in RP for. I realize it would complicate the process, But as I said, I think it would add a lot to the realism and consistency (especially the major features of Sirian space, like the various nebulae) and in the end it would be worth it. As for getting the position of the features exactly right, I dont think that's necessary, neither are the stars through the Jumpgates. As long as the position is approximately right, within about 30 degrees or so, I think that would be good enough.

i started an attempt to make a starscape, made all the textures i needed, but when it came to the 3ds max par stuff, i fail'd. why? cuz i run this accursed vista, which wont lemme make starscapes the fast and easy method. instead, it wants me to do the long and annoying method involving utf editor.

dammit, i hate vista. -.-

hoping my xp comes soon so i can make an attempt at a custom starscape too x.x

I`ve been thinking about giving this a whirl for some time now.

is there a tuturial starsphere-making-for-dummies somewhere to be found?

I`m by no means a computer whizz by I`d like to at least fiddle around with it.
if anyone can point me to a tuturial for newbs, it`d be much appriciated:)

I was wondering, could a light source be added to a starsphere? In Omicron Kappa, it seems the placement of the green giant star was specifically to 'plug' the 'black hole' on the starscape behind it, especially when viewed from a certain point in the system. They both align perfectly, and it makes the system look like it is in a giant wormhole. If this could be done then there would be new possiblities that could be done with starscapes, for example the Omicron Kappa/Delta background could be fixed to look like a giant wormhole (as it was probably meant to look like one.)

Very nice starspheres, Sleip. This is exactly the kind of thing that Disco needs to work on adding. It is all very well have new ships, but you can only have "nothing but new ship after bloody new ship" for mod version after mod version before it gets old fast. what brings originality and freshness to mods is stuff like this. I seriously want to see more of this kind of thing for 4.86. So keep it up!

First of all, sorry for the late replies, I didn't check this thread until now.

Actually, the effect you describe is due to the starsphere model of Omicron Kappa being a bent cone, textured.
To achieve the same effect in Delta, one only has to use the same starsphere or create a similar one (though that is, as Treewyrm described above, more complex).

Thanks for the feedback!
This should only serve as a sort of bump to the Dev Team, but I'm willing to learn how to get to a higher level in starsphere editing, so I might help out if needed.
