I propose that eppy be allowed to make threads by special request only. This includes the thread being made to request the formentioned special request. The 3 page summory of the proposed thread should include a signed in blood agreement for the lack of whining about whining.

I like it and it looks very good. And over 200 millions? Hell, not everyone did have this patience to work so long for it. The mostly players want to have Battleships of all kind. And other ones prefer civilian ships like the liners.

And like others sayed, i also didnt see a "spamming" of them. Perhaps only in specialy areas? But in whole sirius they are rare. So my opinion.

And if someone did not noticed: Not for nothing Discovery includes all kinds of "Peopletransports" as "Trading-Goods": Tourists, VIPs, regular Passengers, etc. Yes, what ships are then probably the best for this? Most definitely not any tankers or other freighters. But tourist vessels.

So, i didnt see, where there is not fully RP?

Actually a bloody good idea, Afterall Royal liner, should only be avaliable to the likes of Queen Carina, one that is rummored to be used by BMM, and that's quickly about it. Then we can upgrade this beach to cruiser shields, and proper weapons.

I'm all for it. There should be more special request ships. Not avaliable to just anyone. But if we really go down this path, shouldn't all battleships be special request aswell?

We have enough special-request only ships as it is. You are only thinking about yourself Eppy, you don't give a damn about others, this thread clearly shows that.

By making Liners and similar vessels to special-request only you can justify the need to upgrade the Liners, since you only fly those vessels yourself, this is all good. (selfish reason)

And you know that you can easily get approved with special request but you forget that other people who also enjoy flying them might have problems getting one. (so yet again, selfish reason)

I've seen precisely one Royal liner, Carina's.

It was getting pirated in Cali at the time, not sure what the outcome was. The Captain was a little aggrieved as I recall.

Back on topic, Eppy may be thinking only about himself, but that doesn't make his point any less valid.

The Royal Liner is more expensive and has less cargo and less guns than a slave liner. It does have 20k more armor...

Slave liners are being discarded (in some circles) in favour of Shires and in some cases Whales.

I can see an argument for a general upgrade to gunboat shields and perhaps, in the case of the Royal Liner, cruiser shields.

Now, before I get "linerspam" in response to this post, how many IDs can use the Royal Liner? It can easily be removed from any ID that has a generic "Liners" allowance.

Also, anyone that flies a Liner is already compromising profits in favor or RP (or possibly more firepower, or both). Is it really such a stretch to give them some beneift in return?

alright, i wanted to comment on this more but havent had the time so!

this special request issue is a workaround to get liners buffed without them being spammed

yes, it would avoid them getting spammed, and im in favor of the royal liner being special, it's royal after all (probably has one of a kind artwork and special rugs and such), but the real issue here is seemingly whether they should be buffed or not, i think we should work on that before we think about fixing liner spam that isnt there yet.

here's a few comparisons of the Enterprise Luxury liner and ships of similar stats from DS

Luxury Liner:
~$208 million, 11 transport turrets, 180 000 armor, 100 000 shield (max), 4300 cargo space

Bretonia's Shire Transport:
~$101 million, 12 transport turrets, 150 000 armor, 100 000 shield (max), 4200 cargo space

Junker Salvager (gunboat/transport?)
~$108 million, 6 gunboat turrets, 160 000 armor, 140 000 shield (max), 3350 cargo space

"Democritus" Luxury Yacht (i fly this until i can get the $ for a liner)
~$70million, 5 transport turrets, 1 gunboat turret, 170 000 armor, 100 000 shield (max), 1500 cargo space

okey, so you can buy almost any cruiser for the price of a liner, or a whole fleet of gunboats
now, the shire transport seems to have the most comparable stats, costs 100 million less for some small decreases in amour and cargo space.
then we have the salvager.... some quasi transport/gunboat that could only be dreamed up by the junkers, unlike most ships with a cargo capacity over 3000, it can mount gunboat turrets and a gunboat shield again for $100 million less then the luxury liner.
the yacht I fly can mount a gunboat turret! it also has the handling of a gunboat, 10 000 less armor then a liner, a much smaller cargo space, but it's tiny compared to liners.
How is it so well armored, so cheap, so maneuverable, and able to mount a gunboat turret?

so before we worry about spam, i'd like to see some small and fair (i think so, but trial by forums) changes.

Liners should be able to mount gunboat shields at the least , you would think they would be slightly more shielded then the average BW transport, also i'd like to see the armor rating upgraded to be similar to small cruisers (200 000 - 250 000), they are already as big as a battleship and have the handling of them. also it's a luxury liner and has bars and such taking up room, so i'd happily trade off some of my cargo space for extra the armor.
too many players will object if they can out shoot their gunboats, so i wont even touch the issue of transport turrets.
but is this extra defense reasonable?
