Yeah, even if we can't 'actually' dock it would be awesome to have a carrier sit by and open up docking bays.

For this to work the best, it'd be nice if cap-ship mass didn't get knocked around as soon as a fighter knocks it, either.

Also Order ships could have Cloaking systems.
Ships could become more stream line for cruise.

A lot of things could be done with this.

The LPI could grow bigger when you type /eat donut

Cloaking: Igiss said that will NEVER happen. It's too easy easy to abuse.

Streamline: This is an interesting concept. As a ship goes faster, it has to worry more and more about smaller particles in space. Those tiny rocks become miniature bullets. Reducing your silhouette would protect vital parts of your ship. Even with shields, small things can get through.

It would be possible, but the uses I think are lacking.

No cloaks
Ships becoming more stream lined would by cool. What you do is you make it so that when you move your wings it increases you speed and decreases your cruise time.

And the donout thing, crazy but cool.:cool:

When I said Cloaking, It was from a RP point of View.

Like lets say a shield that when mounted on your ship, you pressed a button and the ship became invisible.
(Not from Scanners I'd like to make that clear, You can still shoot it and you still have the target reticle present meaning you can aim at it). But as it is a shield it would drop if lets say one shot hit it. Meaning it would be purely RP no way to abuse it.

EDIT: It would become a dis-advantage as your shield now sucks because it drops after one shoot. Making it a purely RP tool, Which I would use myself as I've given up on PvP and decided to become a purely RP player as I don't see the point in killing each other.

Unlike me, I'm pro at making it look like I actually have an opinion on the topic.
Except in this post.
I'm feeling rebellious.

Actually this would be perfect for carriers! I think there's a problem where players can't choose who docks - if they have the rep, they can land.

If carrier models were designed with a hollow cavity in the model, with a bulkhead covering it you could assign the back of the cavity with a fast-dock point. This means that people would only be able to dock if the player owning the carrier opened the door, which allows them to choose who docks.

Microscopic dust particles will tear your ship in half when traveling at high speeds. Makes a good argument to streamline. Then there's nebulae as well, which in dense enough areas might alter flight characteristics to almost flying underwater.

Then because none of this actually matters to Freelancer's game engines, there's just the fact it looks cool.

I would love to see this done for Keepers/Wilde and the Osiris. Since it would be really nice to RP this. But no Order fighters/GBs and cruisers can have a cloaking device since only the Osiris has enough power for one. Made the Shield admin given only and it would work without abuse in my opinoin

It is possible to animate ships, a lot of the ships ha e animations built in, the only problem is that the only way to trigger these is via ejecting cargo, trust me on this one.

There was some talk in the dev chat about linking it to FlHook, but it would increase server load immensely. If anyone figures out how to link it to a button, I will personally go and beg them to tell me how, becuase that sounds so cool to know about:)

Pwnt.

Anyway, if not even serving a purpose, there would be no harm in having these nice little touches.

Might even make traveling around slightly less tedious, if only for the first three times you see the animation.
