It tickles me fancy to see NY as a lone system outrank any house with multiple systems.

Why do we have to punish people that want to play in Liberty to get them to go elsewhere. You get more ants with honey than vinegar. Put in some incentive program to get others to go to other systems (and I don't mean bases buying certain commodities at a high prices, luring powertraders.) Last time I counted there is only 8 players that I've seen play in Gallia that are not powertraders. And in Rheinland its completely dead except during euro prime gaming time. Maybe if there way when you start a new character that you can start on any house's Captial that might help. Dunno If that could be done though.

There's 200 players. There's 160 or so systems.
Player saturation would be a very bad thing for any sort of RP, as you'd get, at most, 2 or three people in a system. Yes, this means there are systems that, at any time, are 'wasted'. and I'm sort of against adding new systems, as it increases the problem....if it is a problem.

I think its just a symptom of the playerbase being less than entirely into the whole 'rp' thing..which, yes, is a problem. I'd not DM for such a group, nor would I want to p&p in it...but as to whether there's any way to fix that, I'm going to say likely not. New York -is- the center (which we could change by linking Gallia to Sigma and the lower Omicrons, which would make the map more of a 3d shape. Alaska's linked to Omicrons..why not Salisbury or Chester?) and people do start right next to it.

' Wrote:So I decided to log into my RFP and RP a bit, 15 minutes and the only two souls I see are two departing traders, who are obviously in a hurry to get credits.

I look at the chat menu, 122 people, where are all the players??

i took a pad and paper, tallied the numbers and made you this graph:

[...]

I would like to remind you all that this graphic does not provide an impression of the average distribution of players. It is only one clipping of many other possible ones. It shows 122 players on the server in a window of 15 minutes (most definitely some players have logged out or logged in during that time). Another time window would show that the server is full with almost 200 players which could largely affect the distribution. Also, consider that some factions log in as groups, like the RM. This affects the distribution, too. So while the number of players in New York and Liberty might stay more or less constant on an extremely high level on average, the distribution of players in other systems and houses might well change to a great extent. For example, the distribution of players between Bretonia, Kusari and Rheinland could look completely different as the numbers in the shown graph range from 2 to 10 players. This ratio can easily be changed.

If you want to use this nontheless interesting graph as a foundation for your arguments, consider it as an example, nothing more. You would need to monitor the distribution of players over at least 24 hours to determine some kind of average. Better monitor the server 24/7 for one week, considering that playtimes of different players might well change on different days. Keep this in mind before you suggest which systems would need more attention, this graph cannot be considered typical for all systems. Probably for New York. Probably.

You have a good point there, Funkz, but who'd volunteer to just float about tallying, i bet there could be a really simple FLhook thingie that could be used to make a line graph of the player distribution accurately.

although blowing up NY would solve the immediate problem, the mod would probably die/ everyone will move to Penn.

Getting rid of the good scrap-mining rates near pitts and putting it in the Tralfalgar base in New London/the nearby shipyard, which is pretty newb friendly anyway. and put a newb-friendly moneymaking opportunity somewhere in every house other than liberty would broaden Newb horizons. so it's not either Pittsburgh or some faraway Tau system with tough NPC's where you could mine for a good profit.

I like the idea, probably actually implementing such a system would provide some interesting data for the developers. Because the main question here should be: If New York is so dramatically overpopulated, how can we attract the players to other systems? More accurate data would help to identify systems that players don't care about much. Identifying a problem is the first step towards a solution for it.

Though somebody probably should point out that not all systems need the same amount of players. A good distribution would be somehow balanced between the four major houses, with Liberty having more than average because of its central position in Sirius and the trade routes that lead through it.
