It's one thing to spam missiles, it's quite another to aim them effectively. When you have someone who does both, you end up like Zapp's phantom, when you have someone who only spams.. well, I suppose you get the gist.

I agree we have to increase the range of the guns. And what about Power used by Razor and missiles?

Yes, i always use sub-targetting with my missiles, as they are so agile, they can pinpont and rip off enemy thrusters and guns before killing them. This makes for very effective combat.

What doesnt is aquiring the target and spamming the fire missile button, most of your missiles will miss and you will do little to no dammage (GB missiles only have fantastic tracking when fired almost directly at the target, otherwise they veer off into the distance).

Guns on the other hand are fine, and need no change (a slight dammage boost for the BRs and pulses wouldnt go a miss though).

Good thing almost every Gunboat pilot is a complete noob then. Only time I've died to a Gunboat since 4.85 was released was one that was weapon modding. Something must be wrong if a Gunboat can only win in 1v1 or in vastly greater numbers. Hell, me and one of my Vigilante wingmates came back from a training session in Conn without repurchasing ammunition or regens, we were attacked by an Outcast Gunship on the way back to base. We beat the crap out of it without needing to use a single regen.

Speaking from a strictly Bomberwhore point of view... Gunboats suck. They shouldn't be Godly like they were in 4.84 but they should at least be able to do their role.

Razor and missiles should probably keep the same power drain. Some gunboats have a much smaller power supply than others. My rogue gunboat can fire two missiles at once, my outcast gunboat can do about three (basic), not that I ever use that many at once.

It's easy to say, oh that's too many, but when you're mixing it up with guns of the cerb variety or pulses or razors you often end up just dodging for a pass because you're down to your last dredges of pewjuice.

The current state of gunboats is fine, I think. Two bombers, or one bomber and a fighter have a good chance of taking down a gunboat, dependant on the skill of the gunboat pilot, obviously.

Edit: I'm a bit of a gunboat enthusiast at the moment. I became utterly sick of trying to hit level 5 npcs with razors and supernovas while keeping the tradelanes down. Gunboats turn npcs into a light aperitif.

That's why x4 Debs is a terrible loadout for bombers x3
/offtopic.

So far, the best tactic I've had used against me was a Gunship that chainfired basics. That was effective enough that I had to focus most of my time evading, and left me with little time to line up the SNAC. Still wasn't enough to kill me... but he actually made me use nanobots which is more than what I can say for all the other Gunships I've killed... <_<

Ive fought a bomber and fighter combo in my orca and won easily (hackers, forced them to run pretty quickly after using maybe 50 - 100 nanos). I find if a gunboat can dodge SNACs (most GBs short of the imperetor can), then bombers will fall, simply because if forced to joust, the combined effect of missiles and guns is devestating. They fill their role quite well actually (unless the pilot is a nub).

Well if you'd ever like a bit of a challenge give me a nudge on isf|Susa.ibn.Sina or Mag.Folan[Molly]. I wonder if you're as tough to kill as the GMGers!

Edit: Replying to Montezuma's post above; I concur on the SNAC dodging. I often wander off from fights without using any bots or bats. I have however, experienced very competent Titan pilots capable of neutralising my EKing antics with shared TCD duties. When you only have two turrets capable of firing backwards (as is the case on the Molly/Rogue gunboat) it is difficult to put out enough dps to match them. Note that I am referring to two or more, not one enemy. One fighter/bomber against a gunboat is, in my personal experience, death.

/offtopic again. Now I have to say something else slightly productive... uhh...

It's all very well for a Gunboat to joust a bomber, but if he's got buddies they're going to be on your tail and hammering you with SNACs every time you turn. That's how we do it. Wait for them to e-kill turn, then they're vulnerable and we hit them with a triple SNAC. Instant-kills are always satisfying, knowing they never had a chance to use their bots.

You're that molly GB with the missiles then?

Thats another good example of good use of missiles, made me in my pret and another guy in a pret run (and suicide cos of the horrific weapon dammage), which is about the only time a gunboat has ever done so.


Back on topic, it seems we have proved that it is down to the pilots skill as opposed to the weapons themselves to determine the results.
