I think the GBs are fine. It's been months since the 4.85 first came out and there have not been major complaints about them.

It's just that you need to learn how to use your ship most effective in situations. When you are in a GB you are never without chances (unless it's a 3 or more bombers) in which you can just hope to down one or two. I've never personally lived in a GB through an engagement if I'm up against 3 or more bombers.

I'll bring out the fight I was in the other day... again...

There were, I think, 4 bhg bombers (could have been 3 though, was hectic), and I believe 2 bhg gunboats, in delta. We jumped in with 3-4 fighters, a bomber, an osiris, a recon destroyer, and two gunboats.

Yes, for the first 30 seconds of the fight, I was doing pretty good, I chewed into the hull of several of the bombers. Then they decided "oh hey, this gunboat might actually be able to kill us, let's shoot at it", and I was dead within 20 seconds.

I dont think it's possible to dodge snacs in the order gb unless you're at 2k range, either that or these bhg guys were ace gunners, which I'm doubting at this point. All in all, the second those bombers decided to target me, I was dead, no way out of it. I was dodging my heart out (and if there's one thing I've become good at here on disco, it's dodging... my aim may suck but I can usually avoid fire pretty well), and I still got hit with all but one snac that was fired at me, and that one barely missed.

Further, while being shot at, there was no chance in hell I could actually fight back, the GB cannot keep on a bomber's tail - it simply turns too slowly. Now, ships like the BHG gunship or kusari gb might be 'fine' in your book, since they've got fairly decent agility and much smaller size, but the larger gunboats? They're still balanced around the idea of being anti-fighter/bomber vessels, but lack the tools to accomplish that.

You've been here long enough Tena that you should know that a GB is the worst thing you can bring to a furball. They always get targeted first and thus are killed. :laugh:GBs always get crushed first no matter what you do. Simply the concentrated fire will make dodging and fighting back pretty useless.

I was basing my GB vs bombers & fighters on smaller numbers

well who was it in this thread that commented "in fleet battles the gb will be more effective because the bombers will be targetting the battleships and dreadnaughts", hm?

I bet it was the one who has played too many Single Player space games :P

But you know it as well as I that those fleet engagements in Disco server do not go that way. Ever.

Yeah, GBs are the worst possible ship to take to a big fight. Especially the Order GB. It's so slow. GBs are only any good if you're up against 2 or fewer bombers. 3 bombers, or two good pilots and you are dead. The Orca stands a chance against 2 GBs, if the two aren't good pilots. The Order GB has no chance.

In the end it comes down to the agility of the GB. The more agile you are, the better chance you have of avoiding fire, and therefore the better chance you have of getting a kill. The heavy GBs are just big targets for bombers and Orcas/Rogue GBs. In all my time here I've only come across one Corsair GB that had me worried in my Orca.

Try the following.

Don't bother with ordinary turrets at all. Just load yourself out with three razors and two pulses and instakill any bomber or fighter that comes your way. The loadout will be highly effective against other gunboats as well, and will put fairly big holes in a cruiser if you fly it right.

I dont see the reason to power em up.

I encoutered gunboats capable of tearing down 3 or mroe bombers in singe fight 1 vs 3 or more. Just need learn to fly. There is a lot of diffrent tactics. Well I dont fly gunbaot myself, but from waht I've seen.

And furthem ore gunboats arent bombers. They are not tend to take BC's or BS's with sagnificant DPS

From my point of view, gunboats/gunships are just fine as they are. I have 2BR and 3 Cerbs on my Claymore... It's energy-eating, but the best set for my....work:). Plus it really depends on the actual pilot's skills...

That was me. Why? You wanna take it outside, tough guy? Huh? Huh? Yeah. I thought not.

From my experience in Outcast vs. Corsair/Order fleets, that's what happens.
