If a Police / Military guy catches you within House space with a hold full of contraband and has you eject it, that's not piracy, because he is upholding the law, and you were hauling contraband. He has full legal authority to stop you and make you drop the contraband.

If a Police/Military guy catches you within House space with a hold full of non-contraband and has you eject it, that is piracy, and OORP (Unless you were going to/coming from their enemies). He is not upholding the law, you were not hauling contraband, and he has no legal authority to stop you.

If anyone who is not Police/Military catches you within House Space with a hold full of anything and has you eject it, that is piracy. He is not upholding the law, and has no legal authority to stop you.

If anyone catches you in an Independant System with a hold full of anything and has you eject it, that is piracy. He is not upholding the law (since there is no law to uphold in an independant system), and has no legal authority to stop you (however, this act of piracy is not illegal, since there is no law against piracy in an independant system).

Yeah, I will read it later, but from quick looking in it seems quite specific, I wanted to know some general sense about he "P.I.R.A.T.E" word...

And no, unless you're the pirating Kishiro guy, it has nothing to do with ya:)

All copper need a luxury yacht one day or another, and smugglers being caught by the police should bleed dearly. One cant live of what they pay cpops these days.

But the millitary blockades are simply stupid and annoying, they couldnt enforce a bloockade at sea in history, and in space its just impossiblle, it just takes out the lawfull traders and therefore harms the roleplay.
and to roleplay is annoying for the navy man too.

I've always thought the lawfuls asking for a fine on top of destroying the contraband was a bit over the top, specially when they ask for a ridiculous amount that trumps regular piracy requests.

If they're running embargoes, they're not lawful traders. They're smugglers. At which point your first paragraph comes into play.

And you'll find that if traders are forced into bottlenecks (see trade lanes) that deliver them into the lap of the authorities, they should expect to get caught. Sea blockades would have very easily been enforced if the vast majority of ships used a single channel that forced them to travel single file. If you take the 'back route' through the jumphole network, expect to get away with it though.

Yes, it sucks losing your cargo and getting fined by a lawful, especially in this economy, where the only thing that, as a trader, sucks more than your ability to get away from lone pirates and cops, are your profit margins, but let's face it, that's realistic. If you're in a ULCC hauling fifty million tons of crack cocaine into Boston Harbor and the DEA gets wind of it not only will your cargo be confiscated, your ship will likely be repossessed and you will be serving life (I imagine that hauling a full load of drugs in a ship like that could easily constitute crimes against humanity...) at the very least. We get off light in this game.

On the other end of the spectrum, profits are so poor that when a pirate takes his two million you just lost a huge chunk of your profits and are invariably hurting for cash unless you have at least a 4K transport (No, it doesn't count if all you're supporting are two fighters, a bomber and a Gunboat, you lazy sod, think big).

On the topic of military blockades: the number of people who think they can just waltz past Houston and the Mississippi with all their illegal cargo is astonishing. I have a gunboat I made with enforcing the blockade in mind as its primary goal. Some people play along. The best I get out of some others is that they start cruising on, keep trying to go when CDed, ignore the warnings and eventually go 'wtf?' when the Navy gunboat starts shooting them.

' Wrote:The biggest problem I have with lawfuls demanding contraband is this... not only do they take your cargo and usually destroy it, leaving you with nothing to make up for the profit loss of purchasing the cargo in the first place, they usually try to slap a 4-5 million credit fine on top of that.

So not only am I out the 5~ million profit I might have made, I'm out the 1-2 million it cost me to buy the cargo, and I'm out another 4-5 million due to a fine.

Lawfuls are worse than pirates, no doubt about it. I dont mind losing the cargo when I get caught, but I shouldn't have to pay for that cop to get a luxury yacht.

This is something I have to call the "Lets all hold hands" theory. Everyone should be really nice to each other, shouldn't they? Police should respect the fact that those smugglers moved all that way and had to buy the contraband. Just like pirates should be really nice to traders and never shoot unless it's obvious, right? Everyone should just hug and never be harsh at all.

Get over it. It's Roleplay. If I meet a trader going to the Taus, he'll get stopped and fined. If I find someone that has Cardimine or Artifacts, he will get stopped and fined. If I find someone with Counterfeit software or Black Market Munitions, he will get stopped and fined. End of story. I will Roleplay. I will always Roleplay to the best of my abilities. In this case, a law has been broken and you will be asked to drop your cargo and be fined. It's mean, yes, but let me stress something I fervently believe in: Roleplaying is not nice. Roleplaying is mean sometimes. It's Roleplaying. Deal with it. If you can't separate yourself from your pixels of imaginary money or your pixels which compose your imaginary spaceship, then there is something wrong and you should take a break.

But, really, how hard is it to get caught as a smuggler? This version, I have ran the same route for months, and I have been caught once because I took a Jump Gate instead of a Jump Hole. After that, I have never used the Jump Gate again and have been caught a whopping zero times. Don't like to use Jump Holes and sacrifice that 10 cr/s? Then don't complain when you get caught.

[8:32:45 PM] Dusty Lens: Oh no, let me get that. Hello? Oh it's my grandma. She says to be roleplay.
[12:49:19 AM] Elgatodiablo: You know its nice that you have all that proof and all, Bacon... but I just don't believe you.

So you would deny that this is a game, designed to be fun for everyone, and will continue to use the excuse of cruel RP as an excuse to make rediculous amounts of money?
