Starting cash is fine, when you know someone isnt going to abuse it. The problem is when you give someone money for nothing - that has one of two effects, it either turns the player into a beggar who runs around asking people for money (I see these beggars almost every day now), or it gives them the idea that they can get by on the server without having to put any effort into their characters.

I dont mind players who give people money for a job done, or a specific cause. I used to host RP trivia in new york during 4.84, and I'd give cash to anyone who answered correctly. That causes people to think. I dont mind players who ask new guys to play escort or join them on mining/trading runs in exchange for credits either - this encourages player interaction, and a more experienced player can help a newer player learn how to fit in on the server, while simultaneously providing that new player with something he needs.

Just dont randomly hand out cash without a word said, make them work for it. The risk of the receiver of that money becoming yet another lolwutter because of your actions are too high.

I have to agree somewhat with Tena here. I also sometimes make the newbie work for his money. Of course the sums are too much for a job like. Go take a peek at system x in Liberty and see if you can find y. Or run escorts for me in their starfliers.

At least give money to those who have a bit of potential if you need to give it out free. Like this OP here.

Flying under radar.

I like to help others. I help almost everyone who asks me for help.

PS - That doesnt mean you make new chars and ask me for money.

just ignore the beggars.

usually you can see what kind of players they are. on my Bowex I met a starlier who was rp-ing his pants off. but no one paid attention to him. (strarflier racists...) so I hired him to protect me (no comment).

while we were flying through the upper omegas we discussed the best way for him to continue setting up and saving up money.

I paid him 2 mils for a "job" well done.

don`t just give money to people. let em "work" for it in a rp-environment. that way hey are helped, and they see how things are done rp-wise.
