Can i ask a moronic question? Will discovery mod run for it? it is FL like and if it is as cool as I hope it will be I pray that disco will run on it and that FLMM will also work for it (unless you got an alter ego of the program)
While openlancer is built in the spirit of freelancer, we are building a completely new game engine, so the discovery mod COULD run on openlancer, but only after you port it. Of course, since openlancer is planning to support the porting of all sorts of freelancer mods, we will be creating a "porting utility" that will quickly and efficiently convert most any FL mod to an OL mod.
OL doesn't need anything like FLMM, because it has built-in mod management. You would choose your mod from a list of installed mods and it would be automatically and instantly activated. OL doesn't use scripts (at least not for a long time, when we add script support it would be written in Python, most likely), however, so those will all have to be converted to INI changes, and then converted into the database format that openlancer uses. Again, we already have a utility to convert INI to DB, and eventually we'll have an entire mod conversion pack.
When the Arena release is out (0.1.0.0), we'll be looking more into adding mod support.
Tank, if openlancer gets released, why would we play Disco Anymore?
No Offence to you guys but I would go and play Vannial OL for along time before the modding communities got together again and start creating new things. This will have more features in Vannila then all the other mods out for FL right now.
I assure you that i am working at my fullest capabilities to get out the Startracker release ASAP, which will include a demonstration system (with a cool looking sun to boot), basic flight mechanics, and if your really really lucky, multiplayer and chat.
However, the end of school is nigh, and with that comes finals, so be warned that i must tend to my schoolwork first. We've acquired several programmers, but they are unavailible until the summer.
So, hold on for a few more months and things will start rockin.
(If you find any mistake in my English, please let me know via a PM)
(Really, I speak terrible English, so please, tell me if I make mistakes. I'd like to improve it a bit )
what program do you use? im making a game called Free-Flight, which is a top down FL, but id like to know If I sh0ould keep using Game Maker for it. O and 1 word: I CANT WAIT FOR OL TO COME OUT!!! well, thats 8 words, but whatever
Uh, we aren't using a program to make it. Rather, we are using Visual C++ 2005 IDE to write the code to make the game. THat is a program, but not in the sense you are implying. Gamemaker has a pre-built game engine and it lets you tailor it to your needs. We're writing our own game engine.
For middleware we are using Ogre, Bullet, and Raknet, so far.
