They were a quasi house. But they opted for a criminal way of life, thus they are a criminal organisation.

In a few words, they are hispanics and pretty much like the Outcast they are the best at what they do.

They developed the best Anti-shield guns Sirius, and one of most feared ships of Sirius the Titan.

Not bad for a "undeveloped" house, i guess that one part of corsairs like the spirit of the piracy but the other half wishes to see the corsair name grow as a nation.

But one thing is sure like hispanics they are, they dont need to control multiple sistems and planets to prove their superiority..

Not a real house. Just a bunch of criminals with shared origins and later became an organisation.

Their technology doesn't justify them as a real house. Why? Although official houses have the resources and expertise to develop such things it doesn't mean criminal organisations can't. They just have a harder time doing so.

Besides, if Corsairs were a house with strength comparable to the five big houses they would have gone total war with them and won already. Good example is that they can't even advance into Bretonia territory.

Oh and don't give me that "WE HAZ BEST GUNZ N BADDEST SHIPZ crap, as I said technological advances alone cannot define the characteristics of a major house.

I liken them to some of the steriotypes of present-day Africa. Big on guns, short on infastructure. Lots of infighting. Is an African nation a nation, yeah, but only because other nations recognize them as such.

If you imagine other nations withdrawing their 'legitimacy' and support from Africa, and Africa turned to raiding Europe, Asia, Americas, then you'd have a very apt example of what the Corsairs and Outcasts are today.

I think of them same as outcasts.. an mini-house. Yes they are same origin and they were pushed in other way ( criminal way) but still they are as any other house (just they support piracy and don't trade).

Couple of posts here sounded to me like propaganda from "lawful" houses. Take a look from corsair/outcast perspective .. or from universal one that doesn't involve sides.

Erm, you are fundamentally mistaken.

As per established in-game lore, from vanilla (1.00) the Corsairs are descended from the half of the passengers of the Hispania who left the damaged ship vire escape pods to try and survive on Crete. They only later became pirates when they captured the ship of the first explorer who found Crete, and attacked shipping along routes in the Omegas, capturing more ships and gaining resources to build more.

Therefore, the Corsairs were a NATION long before they could even fly! They were not "criminals" that later became an organisation, they were a nation who grew through necessary piracy.

Quote:Crete Infocard, Freelancer Version 1.0
[color=black]The ancestors of the Corsairs that had set adrift from the crippled sleeper-ship Hispania made planetfall on Crete shortly after the other Houses arrived in the Sirius Sector.

Scratching out a living, the Corsairs managed a bleak existence for four centuries. Eventually they developed a strong self-identity, isolated from the rest of the Houses. In 450 A.S., the insular world changed. An exploratory expedition headed by Franz Schulman -- financed by Daumann and the Rheinland government -- stumbled into the system while mapping the far reaches of the Walker Nebula. The local inhabitants, sensing a historic opportunity, attacked the landing party en masse, killing all save Schulman, whom they took hostage to gain control of the mother ship Schiller in orbit above the planet.

No one is entirely sure who first nicknamed them the "Corsairs", recalling the ancient pirate clans of the Mediterranean, but the name came into popular use among the Houses sometime around 500 A.S. The Corsairs began attacking unprotected outposts and ships, plundering whatever supplies and equipment they could lay their hands on, before escaping through one of their secret jump holes. The systematic expansion of the Houses into the Omega Border Worlds further fueled the Corsair movement, dramatically increasing the quantity and variety of accessible goods.

The final chapter began in the sixth century A.S., when an enterprising, well-armed Liberty freelancer named Jim Bown made his way to Omicron Gamma. He brought various commodities to trade, but the Corsairs could offer little but Artifacts. A year later, he returned. Those trinkets were all the rage with the elite of Planet Manhattan. He saw a great business opportunity if they could set up a viable trade route to Liberty. The Corsairs were on their way. They grew rapidly in size and sophistication as they built up the Artifact trade.

Damn I forgot the vanilla history. Thanks for reminding me Carlos.

The rest of my previous statement remains valid while I'd change the first sentence into "A bunch of refugees who share the same origins and formed an partnership which eventually descended into piracy."

I stand corrected.

Is it hard to see? Even myself dont like the very idea, if the Corsairs and Outcasts would allie themselves as the Hispania Nation, well you could say goodbye to all the other houses.

Best ships, best weapons, most skilled pirates, isn?t this enough.

Hispania is not the most powerful house, just because is divided in two.

(and by the way what's that comparison with Africa and the real world, its was the dumbest thing i ever seen in this forum, to whoever said that please get some culture first, that sound too american speech)

No. Even together, that's two planets, each with issues that lead to limited growth, and piracy hasn't been a particularly effective way of gathering wealth since banks were invented. No interest on piracy. No growth...which leads me back to the strange problem of a group of settlers, split up, starving, half dead when they landed, pitched against the descendents of 4 other groups of settlers, each well fed and with no growth difficulty, after 800 years of life on the top of the food chain. 'Hispania', if there ever was such a place, was never large enough to compete with even one house, and is falling further behind with every generation.

Furthermore, I'd posit that the Kusari Naval Forces have the best ships, while the guns seem reasonably well balanced.

This is the dumbest thing I've ever seen in this forum, outside of flood.
