This is a frequent forum phenomenon.
Anyways, just to voice something I forgot to previously. I don't mind these threads, or any kind of CR-related threads, be they against or for something of ours. They truly amuse me, and not always in a lulzy way, because they help us review some of our aspects as a faction. So don't take some of our refusals of certain theories and proposals as refusals of the people's ability to comment on anything of ours, as long as it's a civilized discussion.
Oh and, thanks for this thread being (as much as it can be) one of those civilized discussions.
Anyways, Mao, I understand some of your points about the thing with the leadership of the faction. They're stellar people, most of them, don't get me wrong, but I too dislike certain things about our policies. Still wouldn't make it so that there's free-for-all indie access.
It all being RPed as some sort of a squadron inside the military could pass. The important OORP difference could be that it would govern itself in a fashion that's a bit different from the official part, for example keeping itself more liberal, although admittance itself would still be restricted, but it could be judged by members of the squadron itself, not the official faction, therefore making it possible for those to whom it's hard to work with the official faction.
It'd still, in-RP, function as a part of the military, because it CANNOT be any other way, and it WOULD need to take deployment and other standard squadron-related orders from the admiralty, because it being any other way is, well - foolish.
This would, of course, be a way to control the influx of players into the "indie" faction, as to not let just any schmoe get in, but the only criteria would be their willingness to RP.
So basically, indies who are indies in all aspects except not messing(though at some point, their opinions could carry a lot of weight, dependent of how each one performs as a player and RPer) with the grand RP scheme of things, but being able to weave their RP as they wish, conduct themselves as they wish, but with the important note that they'd still need to maintain a standard of RP, obeying server rules, and all the laws of the Colonial Republic, because it can't be otherwise.
This is a way to ease some people's concerns, but do note that my viewpoint is still that it is best to join up with the official faction and change things from the inside if you wish to do so.
But seriously, those who've never ventured into the faction, be aware that you really can do almost any kind of sensible RP that you wish, make your characters' personalities in whatever fashion you wish, and also, it really is a good faction to be in.
However, I do concede that I personally would change a lot of things about the way things are handled.
Disclaimer: These are just my opinions, ones that I feel entitled to, and are the ones of a guy who can't make it into action if the head honchoes don't want to, because I don't really hold any kind of position anymore.

this is by far the most stupid thread i have read for some time...
Why one may wonder?....
Because of the question that it opens in the first post...CR ID is non vanilla FACTION ID ...same as Coalition, Hellfire, Marinenachrichtendienst, Kepper and Agard and NovaPG IDs (from the past) - i may even forgot a few...none of them were open for public and only way one could use them is to join said faction...(note that several of them have/had their own NPCs).
I am amazed that this is even being discussed...especially in this manner...

On unrelated note:
As for deluded ideas that CR will take or did take half of IMG ship line that is simply not true...IMG will be richer for several new ships actually and under any circumstances IMG wont be damaged...
Frankly i am sick and tired of constant bickering about CR....discovery sure lost all of its charm...i think i have been here too dam long
i appreciate your opinion, but that doesn't make it right
Why, instead of simply asking about this in general public, you didn't think about it yourself?...What you ask is to take from certain faction something they worked very hard to achieve, through countless flaming and bickering by same general public.
Good way of dealing with this would be to contact faction leader and talk with him about this, and after you two get to some conclusions then talk to admins and present them with fully though out idea.
Faction also needs to benefit from this and not only "indies" or in this case very few players...so in the light of nice and civil discussion with people who actually CAN make decision like this something like this can be done.
This thread is not civil or nice...that is why i think its wrong...your opinion that is...

Colonials are to stay indieless. Its not that hard to join faction.
you need how many fighters active to joine.. like 6 how do you expect anybody to afford it
