Pirates always say "you have your ship to think about, even if your empty, so you should be paying, no matter the amount..."
Well, a pirate is an outlaw - he has no income, and is a hunted man. Pirates are not rich. the money you recieve goes toward keeping your ship flying just that much longer, keeping you and your crew fed just that much longer, and keeps you out of the reach of the law just that much longer - pirates, by there nature, are destitute - consider your own rp, and ask yourself "should shooting REALLY come so quickly? I need this money - I need anything i can get really..."
So if you demand 5 million because your greedy, trader says he only has two - shooting him and getting nothing makes no damn rp sense whatsoever. especially if your in a bomber.
Well, if you want to take realism into consideration - the ships do not disappear in the explosion iRP (reality), unlike what happens every time due to game mechanics. Salvaging what is left can be quite useful for a pirate. Scanners, fuel cells, oxygen, water, stuff like that. So it DOES make sense.

For the sake of a pleasant role play experience fair play is involved. Both sides need to rethink from the opposition's perspective and that means listening to what the other person has to say, instead of demanding a blue message which means the neither side gets paid and the encounter is ruined by impatience and ignorance.
You might be saying that you don't want to compromise because you think your role play suggests you do so. Congratulations, you are the kind of selfish person who destroys this community's harmony and disrupts others' enjoyment purely for your own personal gain.

People say RP, well a ship captain can "RP" he has Insurance, and great ejection system, hell he can even claim his pod is cloaked, and only detected by those he sends his rescue signal to.
People fail horibly here when they try to say i do this, or do that cause it is what is done in "RL" THIS IS NOT FREAKING RL!!

Imaginary RP is another subject. As I said, I doubt any insurance would cover ship's worth, if it is fault of stupid captain.
I know what you're going for there, but most would likely have a clearer understanding of what you're trying to say if you stated it with your main account.
Well I imagine if Cannon crafted one it'd calculate the value of your vessel via the same mechanism that freelancer does (vessel and cargo) and deduct a % of that worth upon destruction. If you're unable to meet the deduction I would hazard to guess that your vessel would remain grounded following death until you were able to meet your financial obligation.
That or risk actual destruction of your assets upon subsequent termination.
