OMG OMG OMG just seen this. ok pull myself together.
Right first I have managed many a time to get pirates to agree to paying half of what they demanded. And a few times conviced a few not to even take credits from me. I have also tried the following demand as a pirate myself, "Can you tell me a good joke". 75% of traders I ask that tend to start shooting(or fleeing) me for some reason.
All I can say is if you are seeing this happening in a certain area of sirius, go trade somewhere else. There are many players out there who just see rp part of this game as just give enough rules wise and little else. They simply don't care. There easy to spot after a while and you will learn how to aviod them.
The worst pirate attempt on me was one pirate demanded me to pay 5 Mill when I was transporting Oxygen. I just simple let him kill me, tried it again and kept coming back letting him kill me till he just got fed up and got the message with out me having to pm OORP telling him to stop being such an idiot.
Either pirating or being a Trader, most of the time you rp just to get along, (case of Pirates, mute traders and fleeing traders)
You keep roleplaying in the hope too find good roleplay of the other, they are out there, and you will have such fun or a laugh during and after the encounter. Thats what keeps me going and its what keeps many players going. One great Roleplay experience each week is worth it in my opinion. And once you find one, note down the characters name and you then can easily get good roleplay again and again. There are many i will rp over and over again and again just because it's fun. When you have a good list you don't need to worry bout boring pirates or boring traders, there just there to pass the time, or waste it depending on how you look at it.

This is funny. Well, not funny. Mostly pathetic. Lets talk about it.
So you're transporting Oxygen. Alright. I've done that, too. What ship are you flying? A 5k? A Container Transport? A Firefly? Borderworlds Transport? A slight indicator of wealth. Presumably, you're flying that somewhere to pick up something else. Maybe Light Arms. Maybe Gold. Maybe Superconductors. Maybe Artifacts. Maybe Engine Components. Who knows? I can presume it's going to make you profit eventually. Knowing trade routes, as an ardent trader myself, I know that I can trade 80% of the time without seeing a single pirate, not to mention those who are actually competent. With those kinds of odds, a trader's profit is a lot higher than mine.
So we're going to engage in some Roleplay. You're flying a ship which indicates that you're a very wealthy individual. I'm going to tax you five million credits because your ship is big and I know you must have money somewhere.
So now you're going to say that your cargo isn't worth that much. Well that's nice, but it's not in a pirate's Roleplay to care about how much your cargo is worth. I'm going to kill you. You think that's a great idea. As a person, I'm not too keen on exploding. It involves a lot of fire the human body potentially can't survive. But it's okay. There's a respawn button. We can forget how comfortable your character is in extreme heat and depressurization.
So you come back to the same place, minutes later, expecting the player to forget about his role and just let you pass. He decides he isn't going to let you go. He continues to play his role and demands more money from you. You repeat the above. After a few times of this, during which the pirate has engaged you in Roleplay multiple times, you break roleplay to PM him an insult clearly aimed at the player and not the character.
Mind, I don't know who this was who pirated you or what happened, but theoretically speaking, I think you're an idiot.
[8:32:45 PM] Dusty Lens: Oh no, let me get that. Hello? Oh it's my grandma. She says to be roleplay.
[12:49:19 AM] Elgatodiablo: You know its nice that you have all that proof and all, Bacon... but I just don't believe you.

You failed to read all his post, or just do not understand english.
He said "INSTEAD" of insulting the pirate player. He just came back over, and over till the fool pirate left. He never said he insulted the guy. You on the other hand "DID" insult the guy in your post, and in the process flamed/trolled/broke rule.
So what was that word you used?
