This is my first post here in Disco, so please cut me some slack.

Hi guys and gals, I am fairly new to this FL RP stuff (only been here 2 weeks) but feel I am starting to get a feel for whats going on.
I bet there are a lot of people like me who are quite new too and are still feeling their way around. Ive seen it posted in another thread that there needs to be a sticky to the rules either on the home page to Disco or here in the forums (or even better both).
I had to ask [ADMIN] to send me a link as I could not find them.
I also think you need to emphasize that this is a RP setup and you need to think very carefully about how you develop your characters. Its taken me almost 2 weeks to realize most of this.

There should also be a warning to all new players, if you are exploring new systems, be aware that some characters own the rights to them and may be in your face asking you to leave and you should be prepared for this. It came as quite a shock to me on my first encounter and I all but nearly dropped my RP I was so angry.

Suffice to say I had quite a chat with the character once I had made it to safe space and he didnt sound all that bad after Id left his back yard.

A lot of people will come to this server because it has a reputation for being the best and also for being fair. Please give us new guys a fair crack at finding out what its all about, but with a fair warning too. Aggression for all its worth has always been met with aggression. I see both sides of the argument here too, I also have a marsflyer, but I can also understand why people dont like to see it in game. It is a bit of a joke ship.
I will be selling mine as soon as my recon character has finished mapping the known universe.

A couple of things I would like to have cleared up:-

Mercenary ID, you can work both sides of the law.
So you kill some BH for one faction, then kill some Xenos for another.
Now I have the Bowex tag on my player. Is there a way around this please?

The Outcast Destroyer is a beautiful ship and has quickly become my favourite to fly.
Is it plausible to fly this ship with any other ID other than Outcast?
If so, what are the boundaries please?

If the ships are removed in the future, no problem...but untill then, failed experiment or not, they are buyable... & if a person chooses to buy one, then that character is piloting a nomad ship...period.

unless it's changed, We have to learn to deal with that.

Personally, I think that if it was added as a way to spur RP, & it failed...then the question should be "why did it fail?"

The answer is NOT because the ship is biologically incompatable. that reeks of an RP 'cop-out'

A fictional ship in a fictional universe can be flown in any number of fictional ways...all ya gotta do is say why you fly it. problem solved.

If I have to write a short scene in character, as an example of how I would buy & pilot a nomad ship...i'll do it. (although I truly have no desire to fly one)

Bottom line is: Unless Igiss or the other admins passed a decree stating that nomad ships are "hands-off" then they are a valid ship-choice for anyone that can handle the baggage that comes w/ it.

Of course, but the only viable RP option they have is to be a Nomad-possessed pilot. And then they'd fly humans. I think that the admins should open up the Nomad ID, but have some sort of restriction, that makes it not worth it unless the person is interested in RP instead of

Explainations as to why a human would pilot a nomad ship is limited to one's imagination. UNLESS there is a specific rule disallowing it's purchase.

It seems that you miss my point...allow me to quote myself: "As long as there are only human player skins, & a nomad ship is available for purchase...then logically, within RP, that buyable ship must have already been altered in a fashion to accomodate human piloting...Otherwise, why would it be sold?"

my 2 cents...

it would be fun to rp a nomad. very fun. I would love to do it.

just gotta be some sort of trigger or permission from admin (i guess) to make you hostile to EVERYTHING (bar nomads/wild).

nomads cannot land at human bases, so, lets not let them.

nomad ID and tag would be nice... and then of course you would need a nomad base. where you would buy the ships from... and dock.

failing all these... imo the ships should be taken out.

because a nomad would not land at a human base. period.

I would play a nomad... the idea of travelling to many hostile other systems for a raid where theres no chance of docking appeals to me... dunno why.

I agree that the look of the skin is unimportant...however, no matter what the skin looks like, it represents the character.

Even though my skin looks like trent in a BH uniform, my character in fact looks like the photo in my profile.

The other thing is: just because a person drives a nomad boat doesn't mean they have to be Nomad.

Like I keep saying, if the ship can be purchased, it can be flown.

I never experimented w/ it, but I doubt that a nomad ship skin would block you from docking at places the pilot is already friendly to.

All this being said, I know that most would shoot a nomad ship w/o hesetation strictly out of predjeduce & fear on sight (I know I would) but, I continue to fail at explaining what I consider to be a very simple point.

If the ship is buyable, then the character buying it, can fly it... otherwise, it would not be buyable.
That is simply the way it is. (untill it's changed)

I don't think anyone is saying that flying the nomad ship is bad, as long as its RPed right like the HF guy and a few others ive seen.

Its the ones that fly them for no other reason, we need to remember this is a RP server, i play here because most people here are mature and no that 50% of the server flying nomad ships without good RP would kill discovery.

1, Yes Mercs can play both sides, id work on getting no tag at all, get neutral with everyone, it saves confusion.

2, Mainly Outcast allies which would be hackers, rogues, dragons and so on.

You're beating a dead horse with that 'if it's buyable, you can pilot it'. Many people have explained it - it's a living organism. FL engine has many limitations. For example, even if we set the reps to be hostile to everyone, you can easily make new friends (I won't tell you how but believe me it's extremely easy just needs a bit of thinking). The ships are there for the people willing to RP, there are a few trying but as long as I see, for example, Nova Antimmatter Cannons and Tizonas/Coladas on their Nomad fighters, and docking in New York, I'll be against giving out Nomad IDs.

For Nomad bases, unfortunately we don't know how the nomads look, would they be in their 'unhosted' form? We also don't have models for the alien bases interriors.

You see, RP is about playing a role and sometimes, yes, imposing limitations to yourself. For example, I know there are better guns than Krakens/Wyrms but since I play an Outcast, I don't have Salamancas or Tizonas on my Sabre in spite the fact that my preferred loadout makes me miss A LOT because of the difference in projectile speeds.

if one were a nomad... i think the problem wouldnt be making friends... it would be NOT making friends...

ideally it should be set that killing no longer affects ones reputation... but im just a dreamer xD

i think you can use "outcast side" IDs, as i think you know there are mostly 2 factions in "pirate side", outcast and corsairs, so i think you can fly with that ship if you are more or less in outcast "side" (look outcast friends in your rp status).

the problem comes with "pirate ID".

One way to solve problems for entering "home" systems is with buoys in the jump holes (saying jump hole to zoner or HF home system DO NOT ENTER).
