Well, yeah, i thought about it too, and the lowest refire rate of forward gun is the key i think. It can be made with long-range hard-hitting shooting forward cannon which reloads, say, once per minute, and shorter-range sides with refire of like 20 seconds.

true, but i don't really want a battleship not to fall agaisnt bombers. What i do want is to either make bombers die fast enough from fighters fire if the ratio is at least 1-to-1 OR make battleship live long enough for the same thing for the battleship to live. Right now a bomber swarm can kill a battleship faster than it's fighter support will be able to keel them. Unless it's solaris boat, but that's not the usual battleship-for-keeling-big-things.

AND i really want to see cap fights longer.

...and i want to see snubfighters fights faster, too. Sigh.

YEAH! In fact, there was a longer cruise drain for battleships i think. Or maybe there wasn't, but it really should be done.

This is actually a great idea.

Unfortunately it's one of those ideas that would have been better suited to the early stages of Discovery, where people aren't so afraid of change.

That and, you could model new ships to reflect the forward firepower.

Great idea, but I bet this thread eventually dies out and continues to be but a dream.

Of course, if I'm wrong, I will film myself eating a Brussel sprout.

This game was never really designed for capital ships. That's why they fly like fighters. Splitting fire is impossible unless Cannon does a magic trick. So caps are flown like fighters.

Also, all of these ideas, yours and the ones brought up before, even if they are good, they all seem to be based on engagements of large sizes, which doesn't really happen in Disco. You'll hardly ever see a real fleet engagement(Fighters, Bombers, Gunboats, Cruisers, Battlecruisers, Battleships and Carriers simultaneously engaged with another force of the same size. I haven't seen any in my time here.)

Think small and then go big. Not the other way around.

It's doubtful it's at Microsoft's headquarters, and even then, with Microsoft having it, it's doubtful they even know which dusty shelf they stashed it away on...

The quest for the source code is a lost cause, meaning that alot of things, including capital ships, are going to suck indefinately.

Well, i see them quite frequently. I mean, the big battles featuring battleships, carriers, fighters and bombers at the same time. I mean, there are usually some gunboats and cruisers around too, but they aren't used much because they suck in engagements like that. And ye, that last one was like yesterday.

Well, i wasn't talking about splitting fire. Yeah, it'd be great, but yeah, it's impossible. The thing is - if the guns you have are pretty much fixed and can shoot either forward, right of left, and they have really low refire, you can shoot from forward gun, change position, engage turret view and shoot from the side, then turn around, engage turret view and shoot from the other side, all without splitting and all.
