' Wrote:1. world in conflict. <--- best strategic game I ever played so.
- Of course cold war conflict gone bad.
- tons of details and nice effects. (one of the best explosions I have seen in a strat game so far)
- No base building
- units drop in by planes
- lots of possible aids.
This
Its the action junkie's RTS.
More focus on Teamplay
More focus on micro-management and unit control/effectiveness
Great Game
Actually, what bothers me most are Mercenary Cossacks.
Horsemen galloping all around the map, their sabres swirling while they travel at insane speed making you wonder "why the hell didn't I hire Pikemen ?"
Mercentary cossacks were fun, but against any descent defence they used to die like flies. At the same time it was always a joy to hire them right when your main forces are breaching the defence perimeter of hostile city and send the swarm in to completely destroy the infrastructure.
I can't remember another rts that really allowed you to use defences and spend hours in assaults on one's fortresses - as well as to play in more common way.
Depends on the style of strategy game you are looking for. If you want RTS try Company of Heroes or the Dawn of War series. If you are more turn based, Civilization is the standard for a reason. If you arent a graphicswhore and prefer a grander scale try the Hearts of Iron series. STEEP learning curve, but oh so satisfying to march your Panzers into New York.
