You can't become second IND, but you can take your own good role with the limitations that will make it interesting. Just basically avoid trading Ore and you'll be fine.
So you are promoting the gunboat escorts and you don't like ore trading... No comments

Ore trading? Why not. But as you may notice, [Convoy] don't just jump on uncivilized market, but works with official BMM faction and BMM-only indies, providing security for mining operations and in any way promoting good roleplay.
[Convoy] don't trade Ore on OSC-SS Liners, don't appear in system with only "Who sells ore, 5000 unit" etc. That's the difference. While Ore is one of the main Bretonia's export products, this business can be roleplayed much better and much more interesting for both sides.
In fact, we export Refugees and, sometimes, Gold Ore (it's not regular until the work with BMM is finally established), import different military goods. So, that's a really good example of valid faction on Discovery RP server.
I also have no idea why you're so surprised.
EDIT: Promoting gunboat escorts? In no way. Promiting roleplay that gives you wide opportunities? Of course.
EDIT2: I suggested avoiding trading Gold Ore because it's a kind of risky woods that may lead any trading faction to degradation.
Seeing as the one and only encounter I had with a KoF faction member ended in a sanction, I wish you good luck and sure hope you can whip the faction into shape.

Jumping in on this...
Gunboats do make excellent escort vessels, I'd promote their use for this. They don't do well in group fights due to their size - they end up being targeted by everything and brought down fast. But a gunboat one on one with a bomber, provided both pilots know how to use their craft, should bring down that bomber. Gunboats pack high amounts of firepower in a moderately maneuverable, moderately sized craft.
Perfect for picking off the odd bomber harassing transports, and certainly enough to drive off assault transports. And most pirates on the gold ore route tend to work alone.

Hi there. At first, id like to tell you, that i like to see the KoF back on duty again. We need more trading factions that are not doing stupid powertrading only. Not saying that all others do now, of course.
And as it was pointed on [Convoy] again...
Using Gunboats as escort ships isnt that easy in RP, as you need a senseful RP background, beause most military shiplines arent available for any civilian usage. And yes, why do we use them, if we pay any pirate?
Easy. We dont pay any pirate. In this case, I just need to point on RP again. As long as there is a senseful demand from the pirates side, why shouldnt I pay? because, as the shire is worth about 110 million SRC, and we sometimes have about 2000 refugees aboard, should we risk to loose a shire and 2000 lifes because of 1 million credits? I guess not. These people are Bretonians, running out of the hell of war. They want to go to safety, not to death.
So, an RP background for a trading faction COULD be needed, if you want to achieve something special, like a special position in your house, or whatever. I would like to see a "merchant navy" counterpart in other houses as well, as it makes sense when another house is at war. With just trading for your own profits, special achievements are hard to get.
Disco needs more active trading factions. Even though the trading system is utterly crappy right now. We can always do with some funny trader rp in the systems.
While I admire your dedication, is there really enough left of the KoF to bother starting it over, or are you the only one left?
If there's others besides you, then best of luck. You're gonna have your work cut out for you bringing it back.
If it's just you, though... Best let it die. You're gonna put yourself under too much stress.
Good to see you plan on improving it, though.
