I know this is quite a bump, but it is the appropriate thread (I think).

I'm using the -d1600x900 command in my freelancer shortcut (my native res is 2560x1440), which works fantastically. Kudos to the developer of that feature.
However, the chat text is far too small for my preferences, which makes any dialog hard to follow. Is there any way to increase chat text size?

When I try to add widescreen support to my Freelancer, everything seems too big and some parts of the UI are off screen.

My resolution is 1920x1080

I also have 2 monitors if that's what's causing it.

In case you just added the -dx command and went ingame, you need to undock from a station to see the changes. When you first go ingame, the upper hud part, and some parts of the lower hud are off the screen. But when you undock, these things fix themselves.

And if you mean how the hud isnt on the edges of the screen in widescreen mod, thats just a bug that you have to deal with.

Did you try the /Set chatsize command (crap...forgot the exact name of the command all of a sudden I'm drawing a blank....do /help in console and it will show you)
I set it to Big<size> and Bold<style> and it solved it for me..still a bit small but more readable.

i dont need to muck about with my exe file or add -d whatever at the end

i have a GT 240 and a 17" flat screen LCD monitor (viewsonic VA703b not widescreen) and i have the problem of the hud showing part off screen when using both -dx and -d1280x1024 no matter how many times i undock and dock and undock etc

so im stuck at the old 1024x768 res atm which is bugging me alot

any ideas? (and i dont want to have to install program after program to find one that works)

EDIT EDIT EDIT think i figured it out

for everyone with my problem its aspect ratios 1024/768 is 4/3 and 1280/1024 is 5/4 so the nearest 4/3 thats not to big for the screen (if your native is 1280x1024) is this -d1280x960 WOOT figured that out now down to my last question below

also is there a way to force FL to save screenshots as like png/jpeg and not bloody 2mb bmp files???

1280x960 is one of the resolutions normally available in game, so there is no need to use -d1280x960 on the command line. Just leave the -dx and -d####x#### lines out and choose it normally.

As for the screenshots, unless Microsoft releases the source code for the game, this one will stay as BMP. There are programs out there that you can set to automatically convert files in a given folder (Say, the Freelancer Shots folder in your picture folder) whenever a new file is placed there. Just set such a program to do the conversion for you. Most also give you the option of deleting the source files as well, if HD space is a concern.

It's official, I have too few ships now...

simply use fraps, gamecam or xfire for taking screens. no need to convert.
