Even when we would not use them? Even when we are docked? It's poor excuse for metagaming. Everyone can find a reason and justification for it. Though I would like to keep this discussion between people I directed this thread, not someone who has no direct knowledge of these situations.
This would be a very very boring game if nobody used the playerlist, seeing as how roleplay hinges on interaction, and their interaction with you is perfectly well within their bounds of roleplay.
Get escorts, take a different route. Don't whine about it on the forums.
And if the Lane Hacker ship or ships in question had been sitting on the lane for an hour waiting for you or someone else to come along, would you have continued on?
If they had been lying in wait quite obviously on the player list, would you continue exactly along your planned route into their ambush or would you use the information to change your route and avoid them?
Frankly, I find this thread a bit sickening.
From what I am interpreting, you're accusing other players of not wasting time lying in wait and of using information that is readily available.
Do you know realize how many systems we have in this mod? Do you realize how large each of those systems truly are?
Some metagaming is in fact required in order to actually play the game without making it into more than a second job...without making it into a second life itself.
Suspension of disbelief.
Sometimes, you need to stop asking how something happened and just accept that it did, move along.
Characters Alan Markson: The Hellfire Legion's Lord Commander The Perihelion: Freeport Four's guardian, and yet much more. Missing and assumed Lost with all hands. Eric Dresmund: Junker, smuggler, thief. Last seen drunk on Beaumont Vayrn Wyard: IMG Recon pilot turned Neo-Terran Captain. Last location unknown

Get escorts, take a different route. Don't whine about it on the forums. This was our RP. I specifically ordered to take certain route to raise activity of my guys. I knew it would draw attention of certain players/character. But not 2/3 attempts to trade we get metagiming Hacker in Colorado that logged onlyfor the sake of robbing IC and gets offline after that.

After 5th or 6th time of getting pirated my guys started to suspect something fishy. I myself checked it and found out that certain Hacker logged on only after we reached Shikoku

We do not metagame, at least not hurt others fun

Information is avialable for players, not for characters
Do you know realize how many systems we have in this mod? Do you realize how large each of those systems truly are? I do. Do you realize how much time we have wasted to get "drop all of the cargo"

We play game for fun. If somebody uses inaccesible information for character only for the sake of his fun it's wrong

I would. As should all of you who are not involved, nor invited to participate in this discussion

And if they don't... well, Of course they do with the help of online player list
it's still a game,
That should be fun for all sides
There are not enough players on a server to be able to make the amount of traffic real. Certainly such incidents decreases willingness to trade and create traffic
As Tycho said.
And the 'metagaming' is done by everybody, although some do it more and some do it less, but I doubt they will now quit doing it.
Yes it is. But, sometime for the good cause, to have fun while RPing. To seach places where to find RP. But to track certain target and log only for the sake of ambushing it is out of question for justification metagaming.
Snak3, you are complaining about an enemy faction doing their thing towards you. You are their enemy. They will hunt you.
Now, instead of taking it on the forum, how about you accept the challenge and make your interactions more pleasant?
I can even suggest a few things for you.
1. Hire escorts. Ever seen those |Convoy| guys? Learn from them. This will make things much harder for them, they will have to think more about setting up an ambush, and in the end - it will be a much better interaction.
2. Hire low level players to scout the systems ahead for a small fee. This is an excellent way for you to go trough, and for them to earn a buck + learn a few things about interactions.
3. Learn your shippers to use alternate routes. Someone logs in in Colorado... Well, you can take your shipment trough the Taus.
4. Call in the Navy or the police. They should make sure those systems are safe for you.
Pirating is the part of trading. It's a game of cat and mouse. You are the mouse, and you should learn to run and hide instead of being so good at squeaiking. Or bring a dog.

I don't mind about piracy. I mind about metagaming to pirate specific faction.
Oh, and we are nor military faction, nor we have big guns. We are shipping corporation. Hire scouts and escorts? There are few of them around, and most of the time on the crowded Liberty-Bretonia routes.
Alternative routes? We try RP trading, not powertrading.
I once tried contacting [LN]. They declined because... PvP is more fun then scouting or escorting. Not their roles. And not always are they online. Maybe I should ask them to follow player list and log in each time they see criminal come online then?
This is interesting. About a month ago another player had same issue as you do now. He was upset, and you yourself told him everyone does it,and to suck it up. Now the situation is reversed? you change your view? Very interesting.
It is done. Live with it. It has been proposed the server limit player list to general area like "Liberty" "rheinland" and so on,but entire player base knocked it,including yourself. So now we/you are stuck with it. Play nice now,and have fun.
