Then you will see that your statement about fighters getting blown away by capital ships is nonsense.
Yes, capital ships CAN kill fighters, if they are set up properly, but then they aren't much good vs other capital ships, because the guns with the fastest firing rate, which are good for taking out fighters, also have the shortest range, which leaves a capital ship wide open to other capital ships that have been set up to fight other capital ships.
My capital ship, a LABC, has been destroyed on a number of occasions, once by two Gunboats and just yesterday (my time) three VHF fighters (I think) (two Sabres and some sort of Junker VHF) very nearly took me down as I retreated to Newark, starting from around Rochester.
Note that I didn't actually fire back until my shield was really close to 50%.
As someone has already said in this thread, in a fighter vs Cap fight, SNAC is your friend.
Next time you see a cap ship, call up a friend or two and work together.
It'll take a bit of time, but with a little effort you and your buddy will be able to either make the cap ship retreat or destroy it.

Seriously, that's a superiority complex if ever I saw one. Try to see things from the other guy's perspective too. You're not better than someone else because you don't fly caps.
Anyway, most of them -can't- be made more expensive. They're already as highly priced as they can get. If a character's total value (credits on the ship, the ship itself and the ship's equipment) goes over a certain limit, the save file gets corrupted and consequently deleted.
