1, 1.
1) That is true regardless of what the definition of a powertrader is.

2) What is the is powertrading exactly?

All powertraders/miners care about is making money. Thus they are RPing the greedy corporations perfectly.

For all those who say they dont contribute anything, you are talking nonsense, I have made so much money from killing/pirating powertraders/miners.

To be honest, in real life, when a trucker drives on a highway, he doesn't honk his horn and engage in witty banter with everyone he passes. If he does, I think it's a bad sign.

Subsequently, I don't expect traders to talk an awful lot. If they're engaged by a pirate or an inspection, then definitely, they need to start talking, but otherwise, I think most talking they might engage in is discretionary.

My pet peeve is people who have ridiculous character names, and incongruent id's IFF's and ships. I don't expect traders to talk, but I expect their setup and payload to be compliant with their corp and RP.

no power traders, no money, no happy pirates, no cool battleship captains.

without power traders we would be lost.
This is correct. If you wanna fly anything larger than a HF, and if you want all the uberkewl codies and SNACs and even a friggin armor upgrade, i.e. if you wanna have any kind of chance in a PVP encounter, then you need buckets of money. Powertrading is a fact of life. Everyone does it. Period.

What cracks me up are the guys with these ridiculously grandiose names, like "Fire Demon Lord" and "Planet Crusher", who picture themselves as gigantic badasses going about terrorizing the galaxy with their awesomeness. But when you scan them they are all poncy trade ships, coz like that BS ain't gonna buy itself.

making cash is part of this game man. I dont see how folks can spit on an activity everyone has to do.

Its like banning toilets.

Also what are the pirates going to do without traders?

I am not addressing your question. Everyone has a different opinion. But if you were to ask me, Discovery needs more power traders and fewer catgirls.

YOU'RE JUST DISCMNATING AGENST A LEGITIMATE ROLEPLAY VENUE! SNACSHUN!

edit: To be serious though, catgirls are bollocks in the context of Freelancer and it takes a serious voluntary suspension of disbelief to get over skimpy little catgirls giggling in their massive, planet-sized death machines.

My option: Powertrading allows you to RP with what you want. No money - no RP (for those who don't fly snubs often). Simple as that.

To be honest, nothing is harmful to the server as long as it is RPed. That's pretty much the end of it.

So someone likes trading? Or trades a lot? That's nice. I like trading and I trade almost every night. It's fun. Well, as long as you make up a little character to captain that ship and play him, that's great. Traders are a vital part of the server. Without a damsel in distress, no one gets to play a charming prince or a dastardly witch.

And here is where the post kinda turns into a rant: what I personally dislike is a selfish view on RP which is prevalent in traders. People who think "Oh you shot me with a Supernova, therefore I don't think you're RPing." or "You demanded too much for my interests, therefore I think you don't RP." I don't really like that. It's not exactly a friendly meeting when a pirate and a trader meet. Sometimes people (especially traders) have a problem differentiating between the RP and the player, and then decide that RP consequences just don't exist and therefore I am a jerk as a player. That is really what I don't like. I'm a mean pirate. I'm going to scrape your hull to scare you. I'm going to demand a lot of money, but also offer a lot of text (therefore a lot of ways out). That's the RP, not the player. A lot of traders can't see that and they break character immediately when things don't go the way they thought it would. Those same traders give a lot of the other traders a terrible name and that's where things like this poll come from.
