I don't know how much the Border Worlds Transport costs these days, but it's always served me well; it's been a long, long time since anyone's successfully intercepted me while piloting it.
The train is certainly an interesting choice; go for it if you want to give yourself a challenge. My slaver currently uses an Advanced Train, which isn't the most popular choice but has definitely made for some interesting scenarios and keeps me on my toes.
Only ships that come to my mind regarding smugglers are Dromedary, Firefly and Borderworlds Transport. The train just has this Corporate look around itself, for me at least.
Firefly costs around a similar amount, and there are "secret compartments used for smuggling contraband" on the ship. It's a good (RP and gameplay) choice for a smuggler.
Borderworld transport is similar - it's a "grey" ship, both lawfuls and unlawfuls use it.

It's also a grey ship, it's grey.
ALS)Cerulean was my old lawful Border Worlds Transport, and no one questioned it. I see smuggler Border Worlds Transports, no one questions the ship unless it's carrying illegal goods.
It's perfect for a smuggler who also transports lawful goods and wants to be welcome in any space.
And if you've made yourself unwelcome, it's a very good ship for slipping between asteroids and through debris fields, as many an irritated pirate has learned.
I recommend it to any independent transport captain.
If you want to do 'easy' smuggling, take a BWtrans or firefly. A pirate transport is a more dedicated choice; it shows what side you're batting for pretty clearly, but on the plus side you are better equipped to handle the fights you are more likely to get in to. Dromedary and Mule if you're hardcore and want to fly a freighter.
