[835 AS] Gallic threats raise Tau fears

SCALPAY OUTPOST -- 835 -- The Taus are once more on edge, after Gallia threatens the use of force to retrieve the Tau-23 to Tau-31 Jump Gate. Bretonia constructed the first Jump Gate in the system, which was later annexed during the Gallic War. Bretonia was gifted the current Gallic Jump Gate by Kusari during their invasion of Gallia, and has held it since -- with Gallia formally ceding its Tau claims through the Treaty of Rishiri. Bretonia has historically refused to discuss the Gate’s status until its own demands on the extradition of war criminals and payment of Gallic War reparations are met. The Bretonian government has warned that Gallic aggression or threats “will not be tolerated”.

[835 AS] Kusari diet passes sweeping defense budget

NEW TOKYO -- 835 -- Kusari’s national diet has passed a sweeping defense budget, allocating significant additional funding to fleet readiness, modernization, and shipbuilding. This has included extensive military contracts for Kure, Yukawa, and Yokohama Shipyards, with Kishiro Technologies and Samura Industries both announcing record hiring programs in response. The new budget also ended the remaining reconstruction funding grants for Planet Kyushu, noting Governor Toho’s termination of the local state of emergency.

[835 AS] Bretonia and Rheinland call for de-escalation

CURACAO -- The governments of Bretonia and Rheinland have called on Kusari and Liberty to attempt formal talks, amid fears that continued escalation and military friction could spark war. Queen Carina and Emperor Frederick have offered to mediate an emergency summit on Planet Curacao after Kusari and Liberty imposed mutual sanctions that are already having rippling effects across Sirius. Gallia’s Grand Marshall de Varax meanwhile has condemned Kusari as a “belligerent and destabilizing actor”, and called for Liberty’s demands to be met. Neither Kusari or Liberty has agreed to attend, with each demanding pre-conditions be met by the other. Gallia has not received an invite.

[835 AS] Fate of the Kappa crossroads uncertain

LIVADIA -- Travellers of the remote Omicrons have gathered anxiously aboard Corfu Station and Freeport 11 while awaiting news from Omicron Kappa. The Core infamously seized control over Planet Gammu in 832 AS, displacing the intelligent machines residing there. Now, these AI have reclaimed their territory, ejecting Core vessels from the system. Rumors whisper of an abnormal Core battleship leading an AI swarm of unprecedented size. Many fear what this development means for the strategically vital crossroads, through which goods from Omicron Delta must travel. The Zoners of Livadia have attempted to contact the enigmatic Gammusians to confirm their intentions, but have received no response.

[835 AS] Liberty and Kusari trade sanctions

DESHIMA -- 835 -- Liberty’s President Hawthorne has announced sanctions targeting key Kusari high-tech industries, blocking their access to advanced Superconductors and funding. This came following a “security incident” in the Independent Worlds, and a failed Farmers Alliance attack on Deshima Station, which Liberty says is part of a state-endorsed campaign of terrorism against its citizens. Kusari has dismissed the claim as “lurid nonsense”, and responded by banning the export of Optronics to Liberty until its “economic coercion” is ended. Liberty has vowed to increase pressure until Kusari takes steps to eradicate the Farmers Alliance and root out their backers.

[835 AS] Alliance attack on Deshima thwarted

DESHIMA -- 835 -- The Bounty Hunters Guild have confirmed a major terrorist attack on Deshima Station has been thwarted. “Agents of the Farmer’s Alliance were apprehended while attempting to smuggle a large-yield dirty bomb aboard,” confirmed chief security officer Bill Parker. The attempt was foiled thanks to precautions put in place following the deadly Alliance attack on Roppongi Station in 832 AS. According to Parker, “this was the exact same playbook”. The detained crew and fissile material are believed to have been provided to the LSF; Kusari has lodged a furious complaint with Manhattan about the unauthorized interference in its own investigation.

[835 AS] Liberty court rules on Platinum dispute

MANHATTAN -- 835 -- Liberty’s Supreme Court has issued its verdict on the Galileo Platinum dispute between DSE, Samura and Kishiro. Ruling in DSE’s favor, the court has ordered the Kusari corporations to end all mining activities in Galileo, and pay compensation to DSE for losses. Kusari’s courts have objected to the ruling, calling it an “unprecedented breach of protocol” due to the Liberty court’s failure to consult and reach a mutual finding on issues of cross-border law. Liberty has threatened to deploy the Navy to evict illegal miners, while Kusari has warned that this would be interpreted as an “illegal act of hostility”.

[835 AS] Delta under siege as Zeta falls

ZETA -- Following recent clashes in Omicron Zeta, both the Core and Order were left bloodied and reeling. This appears to have been the opportunity the Nomads were waiting for, as a tide of alien vessels poured from the Pohnpei Nebula. Given the scale of the threat bearing down, both groups abandoned their outposts and retreated. Many were killed fighting to buy time for evacuation efforts, with the withdrawal largely succeeding thanks to the support of a rescue flotilla from Freeport 11. The Zoners came to the aid of both parties, arguing that the Nomad threat eclipsed any human dispute. Nomad ships have now begun to pour into Omicron Delta, intensifying raids on human stations.

[835 AS] Mu incursion repulsed

AKABAT -- 835 -- The Kusari invasion of Omicron Mu has been repulsed, after Order and Blood Dragon forces succeeded in destroying the Battleship Hakodate. The effort inflicted heavy casualties, with urgent rescue and recovery missions ongoing to identify survivors. Carthage has survived, suffering superficial damage from Chochinbi strikes. The situation in Omicron Zeta has proven to be untenable, however the Core offensive has stalled within the Yap Asteroid Field after large-scale infighting broke out across their fleet. Combat-ready survivors of the Mu theater are preparing to redeploy in an attempt to relieve Cairo Base.

[835 AS] Attack on two fronts

CARTHAGE -- 835 -- The Order has come under near-simultaneous attack on two fronts. The Core launched a large-scale assault in Omicron Zeta, while Kusari vessels attacked Omicron Mu from Tohoku. Akabat has ordered defenders to stop the Kusari fleet at all costs. Cairo Base in Omicron Zeta has been instructed to fight a delaying action, allowing much of its garrison to be redeployed to defeat the primary threat in detail. A call for aid has also been issued to the Blood Dragons of Ryukyu Base. The Battleship Hakodate is currently pushing towards the Carthage Capital Yards -- if Carthage falls, our mission will be critically jeopardized.

[835 AS] Galileo on the brink

GALILEO -- 835 -- Following an unspecified “security incident” in the Independent Worlds, military forces in Colorado and Shikoku have been ordered to high alert. Observers have raised alarms as the Liberty Navy and Kusari Naval Forces surge to their respective borders, warning of a heightened risk of “accidental escalation” in Galileo. Despite urgent calls for information from local system representatives, the governments of Kusari and Liberty remain tight lipped, other than confirming Manhattan and New Tokyo were in “active dialogue”. Both Houses have since put traffic controls in place, and are actively stopping and searching shipping entering their mutual borders.

[834 AS] Kyushu state of emergency ended

PLANET KYUSHU -- 834 -- Governor Ikkaku Toho has rescinded the state of emergency on Planet Kyushu, confirming that much of the devastating storm damage has been repaired. Despite this, many farmers were driven to bankruptcy by the disaster and are now struggling to adapt to Synth Foods’ much enhanced presence within Kusari. Governor Toho has requested enhanced subsidies for Kyushu Rice in response, however New Tokyo has declined, advising that the Empire has other pressing funding requirements that must take priority.

[834 AS] Narita renovations bolster strategic independence

NARITA -- 834 -- The completion of long-running works to expand the capacity of Narita Outpost have been jointly praised by the Ministers of Economy and Defense. The ambitious project saw the station’s storage capacity radically expanded, allowing it to service a wider range of foreign trade, and hold larger reserves of goods. “This much needed modernization will tap into the river of prosperity that flows through Kusari, while deterring malign interests who seek to damage Kusari by curtailing access to goods and markets,” noted Trade vice-minister Okazaki.

[834 AS] H-Fuel prices spike as market volatility increases

MANHATTAN -- 834 -- H-Fuel prices across Sirius have spiked after demand for future supply contracts surged. This unusual increase has been driven by Liberty corporations who are buying up all surplus stocks, although what has provoked the sudden frenzy remains unknown. Universal Shipping and Synth Foods both declined to comment on their own significant increase in buying activity, however many have noted that neither has the storage capacity to account for the excess. Share prices for Kishiro, GMG and Samura all rose on the news, despite Kusari warning that it may impose export caps on H-Fuel to limit market volatility and curb inflation.

[834 AS] Samura struggles with fraudulent claims

SHINJUKU -- 834 -- Following the loss of Roppongi Station, Interspace withdrew most of their services from Kusari. Samura gleefully filled this void, establishing its own domestic insurance brokerage. Samura rapidly encountered trouble when Interspace refused to provide access to its proprietary USI system. This ubiquitous Trade Lane scanner allows Interspace to accurately track cargo shipments for insurance premiums. “Before USI was implemented, we had centuries of experience in fraud mitigation. Samura will learn the hard way,” one IC analyst noted. Samura is believed to have incurred significant losses on insurance in recent years.

[834 AS] Joint strike delays Tohoku threat

RYUKU -- 834 -- Blood Dragon scouts have given increasingly concerning reports about the activities at Ichigaya Drydock in Tohoku, where Kusari appears to be replicating Daam-K’vosh power relays. These are channeling energy from a large laser chamber mounted to the drydock structure, with intelligence suggesting the apparatus is the product of Xeno Relic reverse engineering. Unwilling to allow this technology to proliferate to unknown ends, the Order and Dragons have launched an assault into Tohoku and struck the Drydock facility. While this effort was not conclusive, the inflicted damage ensures Kusari’s timeline towards deployment has been significantly delayed.

[832 AS] A different kind of Houston heat

MARLTON CITY -- 832 AS -- A huge firefight has been reported in one of Houston's urban centers, involving a gang of heavily armed assailants and dozens of casualties. The target appears to have been a major LPI penitentiary facility, with one force spokesperson going so far as to say that the raid must have been carried out by a professional mercenary outfit. Malton City has gone into lockdown amid rumors of a mass breakout by Pennsylvania convicts. An enormous manhunt has been launched, involving Marine support from the Battleship Arkansas.

[832 AS] Houses outraged by Roppongi attack

NEW TOKYO -- 832 -- Kusari has received blistering criticism from the other Houses after the destruction of Roppongi Station. Roppongi hosted House embassies in Kusari, and was a major business hub for foreign companies. Liberty’s President Hawthorne is said to be “incandescent” over the attack, which killed Ambassador Luisa Mason and her aides. She has threatened consequences unless Kusari exert all “means and resources” towards the Farmers Alliance’s eradication, and announced the LSF will be taking “enhanced measures” to protect Liberty citizens. Interspace Commerce has quadrupled its bounties on Alliance targets. Kusari has opened an inquest into the attack.

[832 AS] Terror in Tokyo orbit!

ROPPONGI -- 832 -- In the worst terrorist attack in recent Kusari history, the Farmers Alliance have detonated a dirty bomb aboard Roppongi Station. Emergency responders are still working to rescue victims, however the known death toll has already risen to the thousands. Planet New Tokyo has gone into immediate lockdown amid fears Roppongi may break apart and rain radioactive debris upon the capitol. The Farmers Alliance broadcast a manifesto the following day, accusing Roppongi of “corrupting the soul of Kusari’s youth” -- alleging the widespread sale of the drug Cardamine. Interspace has condemned the attack as a barbaric and senseless atrocity.

[832 AS] Interspace auditors re-open files

ROPPONGI -- 832 -- Interspace auditors working aboard Roppongi Station have reportedly re-opened the historic claims file relating to Osaka Storage Facility. The Samura station was allegedly destroyed through Blood Dragon sabotage in 822 AS, shortly after Samura purchased what some have called a “significantly overvalued” insurance policy. Insider Interspace sources claim the investigation was launched after random spot checks in seemingly unrelated cases detected anomalies that linked back to Osaka. Neither Interspace nor Samura have responded to requests for comment.

[832 AS] A foul wind

KYUSHU -- 833 AS -- Ravaged by the worst storms in Kyushu's history, bustling farming communes have been thrown into total disarray. Local authorities are struggling to address the severe infrastructure damage caused by the violent typhoons and flooding, while the number of dead and missing has risen to the tens of thousands. Many communities are directly calling for external aid, as assistance from Imperial authorities has been slow to arrive. In response, Samura has demanded the restoration of their planetary management contract, which they claim will prevent imminent food insecurity. What was forecast to be a bountiful harvest now only offers grim tidings.

[832 AS] Counting doses

ROCHESTER -- 832 AS -- The catastrophic crash of the Cardamine market has been tough for all the associates involved in the chain of its distribution, and the substantial drop-off in the quantity of it available for use and resale has caused a new problem in this series of bad episodes. The Rogues and Hackers, former partners in feeding the needs of the underworld are now at each other's throats, unable to meet demands for the drug both by their own and by customers, it seems as if stealing it from each other at gunpoint is the new business model.

[831 AS] Jump Hole Upheaval Causes Chaos

HEISENBERG -- 831 AS -- Jump holes across Sirius have become increasingly volatile and chaotic over the last year, with Professor Sophia Nagel from the Heisenberg Research Station linking the unusual phenomena to the Pulse. The Pulse was an unprecedented blast of hyperspace energy that was detected immediately prior to last year's Jump Gate Blackout.

Professor Nagel and her team are certain the Pulse originated from outside Sirius, but are otherwise no closer to identifying its source or mitigating a future Blackout event. "Following the Blackout, we began to see immediate signs of jump hole destabilization in multiple different regions, with many ultimately falling out of phase alignment altogether", she commented. The dramatic upending of Sirius' jump hole network has already prompted many groups to abandon stations and withdraw from systems that appear to risk being cut off.

While months-long trips between the stars are possible thanks to the Liberty Engine and many centuries of innovation, few ships are designed or provisioned to make such arduous journeys. Those who were displaced by Sirius' redrawn map hope that system connections will return, while adventurers and explorers rush to discover new routes.

[825 AS] Dragons excise rot in Tohoku

RYUKYU -- 825 -- The Dragons have struck a great victory in Tohoku by crippling the Battleship Sado and assassinating Teruhisa Yamazaki. It is possible Yamazaki was a Nomad Infiltrator, pulling the strings of the infamous Chochinbi division. Our informants notified us that Yamazaki was due to depart Heaven’s Gate for a private meeting with the KOI’s overall commander, Lord Tazuka. This could not be permitted. Our scouts had observed the Sado’s forces being sapped away to fight in the Sigmas, and it was below the Sado’s guns that we struck Yamazaki’s convoy. Despite losing many brave warriors, we are now one step closer to excising the rot that corrodes Kusari’s very soul.

[801 AS] Nomads not yet vanquished

KYOTO -- 801 -- Following the abrupt end of Rheinland’s attack on Planet New Tokyo, Blood Dragon strike squadrons have continued to harass retreating Military units. During these operations, the Gunboat Brüssow was found drifting in Honshu. A boarding team discovered that the crew had been massacred by the captain, who they successfully vanquished after incurring heavy casualties. An autopsy revealed the Rheinland officer had been the host of a Nomad parasite -- the creature had not been killed following The Order’s recent victory, as we had previously believed. It is possible other Nomad infiltrators may remain intact, with dire consequences if they are allowed to reestablish themselves.

Rumors

Blood Dragons
  • The GMG has been invaluable in providing financial assistance and training to the Blood Dragons. At first they were reluctant, but once the government forced them to pay a reparation tax for the 80-Years Wars, they changed their minds. We expect that as long as Samura remains a thorn in the side of the GMG, they shall keep supporting us. For certain, we shall not rest until any chance of Samura returning to power is quashed forever.

  • We coordinate all our attacks in Kusari space from here. There are jump holes to Honshu and Hokkaido just south of our base here. From Hokkaido, we can access Kyushu and Shikoku. You can reach Tokyo using either route.

  • The Golden Chrysanthemums are a bit unorthodox in their methods, but share our vision of a new Kusari. We do not espouse their heavy use of Cardamine, however. That drug is evil, and will prove their undoing.

  • We have been far too accommodating of the Chrysanthemums and their madness, and I'm not alone in believing this. First they act as if some child that they seek to indoctrinate is fit to rule Kusari, and now they throw themselves into the fray for their distant "allies" - the Outcasts. The only thing these women want is the wholesale damnation of our House and its people. I once believed we shared some things in common about the path forward, but I'm no longer that naive.

  • Welcome to the end of the world. I hope you brought supplies with you. We always need Food and Pharmaceuticals. Gold and Hessian Tears are also prized. Be sure to bring your weapon with you - an unarmed warrior does not garner much respect in this bar.

  • Samura's plan was to open Hokkaido to gas mining in order to compete with the GMG, a partner whom they have exploited for centuries. I assure you that Hokkaido will not be a good place for Samura to do business for many years to come. The GMG will make sure of that.

  • We prefer to attack installations and Samura-owned transports rather than raid foreign shipping, which does not help our cause. Unfortunately, sometimes we must obtain supplies. The Golden Chrysanthemums are not nearly as discriminating, which has created a publicity problem for us, since they are perceived by the press as our allies.

  • Samura has revealed new systems they intend to exploit. Tau-53 is a dark, dangerous nebula with only limited scope for operations. The real gem is Tottori. Those Farmers think they will have an easy life out on the edge of Kusari space. We will make sure they feel the Dragon's claw even out there.

  • There has been a palpable shift in the balance of power at play across the Colonies. I can't account for the reasons why this has happened, but I've been able to observe peculiarities, most notably the scarcity of Outcasts in Kusari, and the newfound boldness of the Naval Forces. While part of me rejoices that the Outcasts are seemingly no longer in a position to operate here with any significance, the other is burdened by concern for what Samura's lackeys must be planning.

  • We hoped to find a new master who can break the curse of Kusari corruption and stagnation and once again bring our nation to glory. But the more things change, the more they stay the same. Without a Kusari monarch for the people to look up to, what do people turn to for inspiration? The new government speaks of 'free-enterprise' and other corporate drivel. This government will have our people worshipping money like they do in Liberty, and I want no part of it!

The only thing these women want is the wholesale damnation of our House and its people. I once believed we shared some things in common about the path forward, but I'm no longer that naive.

  • The battle of the Chugoku Gate has been a long and bloody one. We have lost many of our warriors to the Naval Forces. But they are tiring, while we grow stronger every day with new recruits from the disenchanted youth of Kusari, yearning for a better future for our people. And what was the result? The last act of Samura before they lost control of the government was to connect the gate somewhere else. Samura weakens Kusari for its own gain with this deceptive act. Whether it be war against their neighbours, or resisting our calls for change, Samura is contemptible in every respect.

  • Our movement is very old, dating back to the Sakura Coup in 321 AS. On that fateful day the Shogun Hideyoshi was toppled by the military, which was backed by Samura. Our ancestors were the Shogun's royal guards. They fought bravely but fled the palace when it was clear that Samura had won the day. The Blood Dragons were thus born, a group dedicated to cleansing the cancer of Samura from Kusari once and for all.

  • Many Naval Forces fighters have been lost recently in skirmishes with the Blood Dragons. Due to the low visibility and difficult conditions in the cloud, some weapons could still remain on the ships in some of the more remote locations.

  • The Fugaku was lost in a raid on the Kansai Research Center within the Hiyo Cloud. The fighter became entangled in the mine field during the attack, and the pilot was killed. It eventually drifted off into the cloud. No one has seen it since.

  • The GMG has trained us in many nebula fighting tactics that they learned during the 80-Years War. This is why we can fly circles around the Kusari Naval Forces in Hokkaido. Nansei is a different story. The Research Station is very protected and difficult to attack in the style to which we are accustomed.

  • The Golden Chrysanthemums are becoming too close to the Outcasts. The allure of Cardamine is seductive, but deadly. If you use too much of it, irreversible physiological changes occur in our body. You are no longer truly human. That is the curse of the Outcasts.

  • Things are more complicated than they seem in Kusari. Under Samura rule, we were considered nothing more than nothing more than common criminals trying to destroy the Kusari way of life. Now the new government demands that we lay down our arms before they will consider our demands. The government is mistaken. Many of our secret friends in the government have quietly amassed power in the shadow of the corrupt bureaucrats that feast at Samura's table. Our day will arrive soon.

  • The Blood Dragons believe that for Kusari to change, the tight relationship between the bureaucrats, Samura, and the Hogosha must end. We have amassed enough damning evidence against our three enemies to sway the next election in favor of our supporters. The changes made by the new government shall work to our advantage, even if they want to keep radical voices from speaking out.

  • One day we hope to return to Tokyo victorious after almost five centuries in hiding. What victory means nowdays is perhaps uncertain. The new government is more influenced by Kishiro, and doing away with Samura's influence was seen as a major victory for us. But then the unthinkable happened, and the Kusari people were misled into doing away with our noble tradition of the monarchy. I think we are seeing a clear grab for power by corporate interests. It disgusts me to watch Kishiro strip away Kusari's heritage like this. There are many Dragons who think like I do, and will be ill-inclined to grant Kishiro ships mercy when they cross our path!
