[835 AS] Bloody Skirmish in Omega-47

OMEGA-47 -- 835 -- Numerous pilots have reported a significant skirmish in Omega-47 last week. The clash took place north of the system's central star, between the Corsairs and a combined Hessian-Coalition force. The confrontation inflicted heavy losses on all sides, leaving no faction satisfied with the outcome. This marks yet another bloody chapter in the relentless struggle for dominance in the Omegas between the Corsairs and the Red Alliance. Both sides hope controlling Omega-47 will open the flanks of Omega-5, securing a final decisive victory.

[834 AS] Specter of Bretonia returns

GRAN CANARIA -- 834 -- The Bretonian occupation of Gran Canaria remains a scar that will never fully heal for many. For years, we thought the Zoners were rid of the Bretonian menace -- the Blackout plunged ‘48 into an isolation that was well appreciated. Now it seems those days have come to an end. A connection has been discovered to Dublin once more, soon putting us on the front line of another of Bretonia’s wars. While community leaders have urged for calm, many feel that if the Mollys fall, we will be in the crosshairs next. Militant companies have already begun to form, vowing that this will never be allowed to happen again.

[834 AS] Corsairs and Zoners reach accord

CORFU -- 834 -- Following difficult negotiations, Corsair and Zoner delegates have reached an agreement over the status of Freeport 9. Since the withdrawal of the main Outcast fleet, Corsairs, Zoner militias and The Core have extracted a steady grind of attritional losses on each other. The Corsairs had initially demanded total surrender, however mounting losses and a spike in Nomad attacks appears to have changed their mind. The Corsairs have agreed to release all hostages, and establish a joint administration of the Freeport to immediately end the fighting. While the Corsairs will not permit their enemies to land, the Zoners now have far more autonomy to carry on with their lives. Neither side is happy with the deal, but it seems to be preferred to continued bloodshed.

[834 AS] Blood in the water

CORFU -- 834 -- With thousands killed and Freeport 9 devastated by conflict, the war in Omicron Theta has taken a darker turn. Seemingly drawn like sharks to blood, patrols have reported a sharp increase in Nomad attacks from the Amarus Nebula. Rheinland ships have also been sighted, allegedly attacking freighters near Planet Pygar before vanishing with cloaking devices. It is recommended that all Zoner tradesmen seek the protection of the Gran Canarian Fearless squadron and travel in convoys through the region. Ships traveling alone are now at extreme risk of attack. The Order has already pledged to send military ships to help, however our ongoing vigilance is essential.

[833 AS] Freeport victory thwarted by Outcast betrayal

FREEPORT 9 -- 833 -- Drawn from across the Sigmas, Omicrons and Omegas, Zoners were emboldened to take up arms against Corsair aggression by the recent victory at Freeport 9. The Outcasts had promised the next strike would be decisive, after their reinforcements had regrouped. When the moment came, the Zoners held to their agreement and attacked -- but where were the Outcasts? We were thrown to the wolves, and the promised Outcast strike on the Corsair flank never came. We now know we were sold out, used as a distraction to stop the Corsairs from interfering with an attack on Atka Research Station. The Freeport could have been recaptured were it not for this betrayal.

[833 AS] Corsair garrison fleet destroyed

CORFU -- 833 -- In a shocking turn of events, the Corsair garrison fleet occupying Freeport 9 has been severely damaged. After weeks of heavy fighting, the Outcasts with aid from Zoner militias punched through the Corsair perimeter and struck the Battlecruiser Kefalonia, the command ship for the Corsair defense. Exhausted, both sides have withdrawn to regroup; Corsair reinforcements are already flooding into the region, while the Outcasts call up more pilots from Malta. Emboldened, many more Zoners have also taken up arms, now confident that the Freeport can be recaptured. Despite this, crossfire has inflicted serious damage, with two biodomes already destroyed. Pygar community leaders have called for an urgent ceasefire to allow talks to commence.

[832 AS] War Returns to Omicron Theta!

FREEPORT 9 -- 832 AS -- Omicron Theta was the site of clashes between the Outcasts and Corsairs for many years, with the Zoners of Freeport 9 surviving in the middle of this uneasy equilibrium. Everything would change late last year when the Outcasts withdrew from the system, and the Corsairs boarded and occupied Freeport 9. Now, the Outcasts have returned in force and the fighting is fiercer than ever as they look to win back lost ground; early clashes saw the loss of the Corsair Battleship Fes and Outcast Destroyer Bella. The Outcasts have been open about their intent to destroy Freeport 9 so long as it remains in Corsair hands, to the dismay of the expelled Zoners who hope to regain the station through diplomatic means. The Core have also been spotted operating in the system, intervening to precisely strike valuable targets and seemingly prevent either side from gaining a decisive edge. Extreme caution is recommended when travelling through the region.

[831 AS] Corsairs Pillage Freeport 9!

CORFU -- 831 AS -- The Corsair occupation of Freeport 9 has sent shockwaves through the Zoner community. The Corsairs had accused the station of allowing their enemies to launch raids into Omicron Gamma, with violent rhetoric escalating after the death of an Elder's son.

As Crete demanded the Zoners of Theta turn over any Hunters aboard their stations and surrender docking control, the Freeport 9 administrators were confident that some kind of compromise could be found. A delegation from Gran Canaria was requested to assist with negotiations, due to the close ties between Zoner and Corsair communities on the planet.

Tragically, the Corsairs interpreted this delay as refusal, and launched a surprise attack while the delegation was en-route. Many of Freeport 9's crew are now being held as hostages while the Corsairs pillage the station. An urgent conclave has been called on Gran Canaria to discuss the Zoner response, while militias on Pygar have taken up arms in case the violence spreads.

[831 AS] Gate corps clash over 'Blackout'!

ABBEVILLE -- 831 AS -- EFL's 'Resilience Taskforce' today reported its findings on The Blackout, claiming to have gathered forensic evidence that proved the cause as Ageira negligence. A spokesperson claimed that the destruction of the Dublin Jump Gate by Molly separatists had created a hyperspace feedback loop that was propagated and amplified through the Ageira gate network.

Ageira disputed this finding in their own press release, calling EFL 'fantasists' and countering that their own scientists had narrowed the cause to a rare 'hypernova' stellar event that originated outside the Sirius sector. Both corporations claim that network-wide hardware safeguards have been implemented that would prevent a similar occurrence in the future. Independent researchers have sharply criticized the corporate announcements, accusing both of self-interested misdirection.

Professor Sophia Nagel from Heisenberg Research Station called EFL's accusation 'incoherent' and the hypernova explanation 'nonsense' that did not explain the characteristics of the 'Blackout Pulse'. Despite multiple different Pulse recordings being widely disseminated across the neural net, public efforts have so far failed to triangulate its source.

[831 AS] Jump Hole Upheaval Causes Chaos

HEISENBERG -- 831 AS -- Jump holes across Sirius have become increasingly volatile and chaotic over the last year, with Professor Sophia Nagel from the Heisenberg Research Station linking the unusual phenomena to the Pulse. The Pulse was an unprecedented blast of hyperspace energy that was detected immediately prior to last year's Jump Gate Blackout.

Professor Nagel and her team are certain the Pulse originated from outside Sirius, but are otherwise no closer to identifying its source or mitigating a future Blackout event. "Following the Blackout, we began to see immediate signs of jump hole destabilization in multiple different regions, with many ultimately falling out of phase alignment altogether", she commented. The dramatic upending of Sirius' jump hole network has already prompted many groups to abandon stations and withdraw from systems that appear to risk being cut off.

While months-long trips between the stars are possible thanks to the Liberty Engine and many centuries of innovation, few ships are designed or provisioned to make such arduous journeys. Those who were displaced by Sirius' redrawn map hope that system connections will return, while adventurers and explorers rush to discover new routes.

[831 AS] Gran Canaria Conclave Meets Over Theta Aggression

GRAN CANARIA -- 831 AS -- Representatives of Zoner communities across the Omegas and Omicrons have gathered on Gran Canaria for an emergency meeting on Corsair aggression and the seizure of Freeport 9. Furious delegates argued late into the night, with no consensus ultimately emerging.

The Militants believe the Corsairs prey on weakness, and will be more willing to negotiate if armed Zoners prove they cannot be easily or costlessly bullied.

The Reconcilers believe the situation can only be resolved by deescalating the immediate tensions, and then diplomatically securing the release of hostages and the return of the occupied Freeport.

Both sides are adamant that the other's approach will lead to the Zoners' subjugation or expulsion from the region.

Despite this, some common ground has been found, with the collective tasking a number of Fearless Q-Ship captains with deploying to Theta and protecting the Gran Canarian convoys that will be needed to resupply Freeport 5, Corfu and Pygar.

[831 AS] Corsair Elder's Son Killed by BHG!

FREEPORT 9 -- 831 AS -- The presence of Bounty Hunters so close to the Corsair home world has long been a source of anger for the Edge World pirates. Zoner Freeports offer a safe harbor and open market to all comers - including the BHG.

For decades the Zoners of Freeport 9 have kept themselves safe from Corsair reprisals by offering useful services, with their biodomes providing Crete with respite from the famines that once ravished it. Despite this, outrage has swept Omicron Gamma after a flight of Hunters killed Commander Juan Garcia, before retreating back to the No Fire Zones of Omicron Theta.

The Council of Elders have ordered the administrator of Freeport 9 to attend Planet Crete to hear their demands. Elder Garcia has vowed that the station's halls would "run red with blood" unless the Zoners turned over all BHG aboard the Freeport. The Zoners are yet to respond, likely trying to anticipate how the Corsairs will react.

[831 AS] Pulse phenomenon linked to Blackout

AMES RESEARCH STATION -- 831 -- Independent researchers have announced that a hyperspace pulse of unprecedented strength was detected moments before The Blackout, destroying many of the sector’s most sensitive and finely tuned observatories. Surviving data about 'The Pulse' has been widely shared across the neural net in recent days, prompting mass speculation. Professor Katsuma Oster of Ames Research Station described the signal as “astounding”. “These readings are unprecedented, as if reality itself were struck like a gong.” House authorities have remained tight lipped, refusing to share their own observatories' data.

[831 AS] 'Blackout' causes jump network failure

MANHATTAN -- 831 AS -- Two days ago Jump Gates failed simultaneously across Sirius, freezing commerce and neural net access across the sector. When communications resumed 31 hours later, the news broke of Bretonia's loss of the Dublin system. This twin shock has plunged markets into chaos, prompting fears of sector-wide economic recessions. Interspace estimates that the stoppage alone caused billions of credits in losses. Gallia immediately accused Liberty of causing the outage, claiming the destruction of Dublin's Jump Gate instigated a cascading failure in faulty Ageira infrastructure. Ageira has sharply refuted the allegation, claiming such a systemic effect would be physically impossible.

[830 AS] Tempers Flare over Pygar Colony!

PYGAR -- 830 AS -- The Bretonian occupation of Gran Canaria forced many Zoners off-world, with some braving the deadly storms of Pygar to eke out a difficult existence under the barren planet's surface. This has not met with warmth by the Corsairs, who see Pygar as a competitor for scarce resources. Elder Garcia warned that there would be "dire consequences" if Freeport 9's biodomes diverted exports from Planet Crete. Whispers of alien ruins below Pygar's surface further antagonized the Corsairs, who fiercely enforce control of the Artifact trade. Pygar's extreme conditions and the tense relationship with the Corsairs has already led many colonists to return to the now liberated Gran Canaria.

[828 AS] Reconquista

CRETE -- 828 AS -- Following a lull of successful conquests waged by the Corsairs, the Elders have finally broken their silence and issued an ultimatum.

"The standing Navy of the Corsair Empire as well as its irregular raiders must do everything within their means to break existing stalemates or make progress. The enemies of Crete have grown arrogant and take for granted that Corsair offensives have lost their steam, this is an assessment which must be proved woefully wrong."

In response to these express instructions, activity across every Corsair installation has intensified to levels that suggest substantial mobilization.

[803 AS] Rheinland deserters ravage Omegas

FREEPORT 5 -- 803 -- There is a new menace prowling the Omegas, killing without remorse or restraint. Rheinland Colony War defectors have been sighted indiscriminately attacking trade ships in Omega-5 and 41. These Rheinland marauders are known by the Hessians as the “Wild Hunt”, for the way they appear using cloaking devices, kill or kidnap pilots, and vanish as quickly as they arrived. No Wild ship has ever responded to hails or expressed a motive, nor has there ever been a ransom demand for those taken. If you come across a Wild ship, we recommend you dump your cargo to shed weight, and run as fast as you can.

Rumors

Zoners
  • I get a lot of people here daily during my shift, and it's a real colorful place out here. If you're from somewhere else, you probably won't believe this, but I've seen a Corsair and a redhead girl with every indication of Molly affiliation 'bout her, talking and laughing and then getting a room together. That's not as crazy as it sounds down here on the Gran Canaria, but if you see something like that, do yourself a favor and keep it to yourself. That's not information that'll be healthy for anyone involved, if you know what I mean.

  • You ever stop and think about how little most people know about space? Like, you’re a pilot, right? Can you guess what percentage of the Sirius population actually has a spacecraft license? It’s about 1%. Yeah, that’s right - apart from the passengers, for every pilot out there, there’s ninety nine people just chilling on planets, never actively setting foot off-world. And yet, it’s the pilots - the tiny handful of you - who end up deciding the fate of everyone else. Look at Leeds. Billions of people, a whole damn planet, wiped out because of a minority making decisions. It’s insane to think we’ve come to this point. But honestly, it’s also kinda wild to realize just how much power you’ve got. If you really want to make a difference in the world, being a pilot is hands-down the fastest, most direct way to do it.

  • The amount of traffic we receive has increased over the last few years. There is a large demand for Pineal Amulets, which come from the "Goddess Geode" in Baffin. Those who bring them usually take back shipments of Deuterium. Perhaps they use it to fuel the Shasta Skyhook?

  • There's a new wormhole that opened up in the western nebula. The Mollys are guarding it heavily, denying the Corsairs from discovering it. You didn't hear it from me, but I got a rumor that it's somewhere in the north part of the cloud.

  • I hate to hear the news from the east. Nine ransacked? Open conflict between Zoners and Corsairs? It's not like that over here. We pay our tributes and the Empire protects us. We can trade food, some basic goods we make, and sometimes Molly gold. They don't run files on every person and try to control every part of our society, just simple exchanges, goods for safety. That works for us, and it works for them. Definitely much better than what you'd be agreeing to in the houses. I don't know how it could have gone so wrong over there.

  • Yes, this sector is more dangerous then many others. A potential powderkeg, situated between Bretonia and the southern Omega Borderworlds. Many ships cross through here though. Bounty hunters, Freelancers, but also Corsairs, Mollys, Hessians, and in the past Bretonians. As long as people refrain from shooting each other around our bases, we'll welcome anyone on Gran Canaria. Our taverns and shops are open to all.

  • Border World Exports has stopped their shiments to and from Gran Canaria since the conclusion of the Gallic war. The collapse of the Poole jump hole must have hurt. Good riddance.

Sirius Coalition
  • Hunting Corsairs? No, I'm tracking someone else. My brother to be exact. The lad left Bretonia recently with the idea of chasing a high-value mark. Last I heared he was headed to Omega-47, but I haven't heared from him since. If the Corsairs already got him, he's a goner, that's for sure.

  • I'll be headed to Dublin soon. Not looking forward to the trip. First I have to make my way from the planet to the Barrier nebula wisp that shrouds the jump hole and hope the Corsairs don't catch me on long range sensors. Then I have to hope they aren't waiting at the hole itself. And once through it, I have those damned Bounty Hunters on my tail!

  • After the Bretonians abandoned Gran Canaria, the Corsair dogs were quick to re-populate their colonies here. I suppose they had all the infrastructure set up, and the connections with the local Zoners. Despite the recent Freeport nine tensions between the Zoners and the Corsairs, Gran Canaria Corsairs were always much closer to the Zoners than your average Corsair. It makes our task of driving them out of Omega-49 that much harder, but we're not planning on giving up.

The Core
  • Many Bounty Hunters come to this system. It's what we call a target-rich environment. You've got Corsairs, Mollys, Hessians... Even the occasional Gaian that tries to take a vacation down here. Well, the last one that came went for an extended stay on Newgate instead, and the sum I got for it netted me a month's vacation myself. Heh.

  • Most of the Bounty Hunters on and around Gran Canaria are paid for by independent contractors, whose identity we don't know. There are a large number of Corsairs and other people the House governments label as criminals that make their way here, so there is plenty of work for a Hunter here. But I guess it's not a very safe place for them out there, for every three Hunters that come this way, two are never heard from again.

  • There's a jump hole in the east of this system, which leads to Omega-5. I haven't gone there yet, but I'll head out to find it soon. There's a ton of Corsairs and Hessians down there, along with a few of their bases, so there'll be plenty of marks to collect on. I'll have to be cautious though, I heard tale of entire fleets slugging it out down there. Wouldn't want to get caught in between.

Daumann Heavy Construction
  • This prospecting expedition went a lot further than intended, and we do not have much in the way of usable results. The deposits we have found are already swarming with Independent Miners Guild rats. So now we take respite here on this strange distant planet, and go home. I do not have a problem with that, I am paid by the lightminute, and we have traveled far indeed.

  • Do the Corsairs over there make nervous? Of course. But I have told them of our engagements with the Hessian scum, get some drinks for all, you know. Maybe exaggerate some tales a little bit, and we get along. I look forward to getting home, but I do not mind it here. Yes, the selection of food and drink might be small and very expensive, but it is refreshing to stay at such a frontier location.

  • Hey, follow my gaze. Her over there, with the shoulder length dark hair. Do you see? Don't look so obviously! I think I fancy her, and I will try my luck before we depart. We are in the deep bowels of the Omegas now, I can get it on with a Corsair lady if I dare. If you do not mind, send a message to my family if I do not make it. Tell them I died doing what I loved.

Mollys
  • I'm just getting my ship serviced and refuled, after that I'm off to Dublin. After having survived the Omega borderworlds for the past two months, a bit of time in good old Dub is going to be a nice, relaxing change of pace. There's plenty of Corsairs out here, and they are far tougher to face than the Bretonians.

Corsairs
  • The Corsairs and the Zoners from Gran Canaria got a long history of working together - way stronger than any crap stirring up in the western Omicrons. They get why we’re here, which is why they handed over their maps in exchange for protection in the first place. And we respect them for coming to us - it’s a win-win setup. Take El Hierro, for example. That colony is strictly for Corsairs and the most trusted Zoners. You can’t just waltz in there. Either cough up a serious fee or try sneaking in - though if you’re dumb enough to go for the latter, don’t think I won’t gut you myself.

  • When Bretonia decided to invade, most of the Corsairs bailed ahead of time. Me? I stayed back, pretending to be a peaceful Zoner, spying for the Imperio. In my colony, we hashed out a solid plan - how to get people out, how to handle things during the occupation, and how to move back in once those Bretonian idiots were booted out.

We saw their weak attempt of a conquest coming from a mile away and figured it was smarter to get folks out rather than waste lives fighting. And guess what? We were right. The occupation didn’t last long, no damage to the colony, no lives lost. Worked out pretty damn well if you ask me.

  • People from elsewhere do not know how to manage this place. The Bretonians have tried and failed, their ridiculous expedition smashed and run out, and the Coalition still try and cannot make progress. We have good arrangements with the people here, arrangements that give stability and should not be messed with. A while back, a warlord from Crete arrived, Don Paco. Fat windbag used to easy life on his estate. His people tried to break apart the trade networks so that the goods at our spaceport would be scanned by him, and delivered to him if he desired them. He was killed by a bomb on his speeder. I don't know who is responsible, but nobody misses him.

Independent Miners Guild
  • I've just delivered a group of settlers to the surface. Ah, right. Refugees. Well, I suppose that depends how you look at it. Regardless, the Zoners don't seem to mind our people making a home for themselves here, although sharing a planet with the Corsairs is bound to be a battle in the making.

  • Freighter runs like these don't pay much more than a borderworld run. The people who take them however are a different breed. Supply of our military is vital to keeping IMG alive in the southern Omegas. I don't have the skill to be a fighter pilot, but by doing this, I can do my part for the guild.

  • I'm here on vacation. I used to work on the Guild's gold mining operations out of Hood, in Dublin. Recently I found a very rich gold asteroid, almost solid gold, out in the Hood field which was supposed to be mined out! Not sure how it got there but I'm not complaining, me and my crew can take the rest of the year off.

  • We'll usually side with the Mollys if we see them and the Corsairs clash. The Corsairs are driven only by greed. The Mollys are simply fighting for what they feel is theirs by the sweat of their brows. If you've been treated like a slave for most of your life, wouldn't you demand compensation from your captor? That's how most Mollys feel towards Bretonia, and especially BMM.
