Order him to move away from the lane and make your demand as well. Tell him you will twist off a turret if he does not comply.
This way you are save.
It happened a few times already, that I was in the need to put more weight on my arguments so that a trader or smuggler would come along with my demands. And some are unlucky enough to not carry an armor upgrade with them and you I am really a lousy aimer with the snac.........
"Oooops. My intention was to remove the turret from your ship, not the ship from the turret!"
Yeah, charming, innit? No way around it either. Hell, sometimes I think the 2milordai pirates have the right idea, all things considered.
The best solution is to pirate in groups and have one person do the talking, one watching the lane, and another watching the guys cruise engines. But this just plain sucks when you've no friends around and want to go pirating solo.
Pirates can destroy traders who don't pay for passage.
Don't think that you can destroy someone because they don't manouvere their ship to a certain place. Sure, you can shoot them up if they don't do as you say, but the destruction can only come as a result of not fulfilling a demand and that demand, for a pirate, must be cargo or credits. For other ID'd players the demand can be different, like a demand to drop all contraband or to submit for a memory wipe having transgressed in a guard system, but all players must make some demand before destroying a trader.
Piracy is not the same as terrorism. Theft is implicit in the notion of piracy. I disagree strongly with the idea that pirate can start demanding things other than cargo or credits. People behaving as terrorists when they have pirate ID's risk a stern talking to at best. Or a finger wagging.
I know traders can be so annoying to pirate and pull all manner of tricks to escape it. When in doubt, shoot up their ship and keep CDing them. And do it in a manner that is agressive and unreasonable. Such is life in the harsh dark alleyways of space.
Make yourself a /setmsg with fast demand for situation with No_rp_traders\miners, fast demand, and if he still just trying to silentescape - pewpew stuff.
IMHO, telling someone to move away from a tradelane IS a demand. 'Halt' isn't concidered a demand because it isn't specific enough.
Think of it this way. A man walks into bank with a gun and orders everyone to drop to the ground. One man refuses. Robber makes demand again, this time pointing gun at stubborn man. Stubborn man holds his ground. Robber shoots man.
How is asking a trader to move away from the trade lane any different? I think we need an exception rule for this scenario.
One that I always do immediately when I see a trader, as a GC at least, is ask them to provide cargo origin and destination, or to drop/transfer a single piece of cargo so I can verify my cargo scan of their ship. It gives a good thing for them to comply to and keeps them busy with opening inventory/typing out a response.
I also let them know if they are just jamming the thrusters down the lane that if they do not comply and pass the next lane I'll open fire.
I'm pretty sure both of these are valid demands and actions, and might help your situation (depending on your faction).
I just tell them to pay X amount before I feed them to my pet corsair or remove a limb as soon as they see me. That way I have my bases covered if I have to pew pew them into not camping a tradelane. If I have made my demand and they still attempt the auto dock thing, they die. No matter what.

I dont know Athenian, the rules allow for other demands beside cargo and credits.
Quote:6.6 Aggressors are not allowed to destroy a trade vessel prior to issuing a demand and allowing sufficient time to respond. Demands may be cargo, credits or an RP demand, such as leaving the system. "Halt" is not a demand.
While I personally would ask the trader to move away from the lane, and if he didnt that would quickly move to, "Ok, then drop all your cargo" followed quite closely by a barrage of fire. That being said, the rules do leave room for other demands, and specificly used in the example is a demand on movement "Such as leaving the system." Anyway, I just think your comment above kinda clashes with both the word and spirit of the rules.
