What do you say Reavers?
Speaking of "stuff based on FL but possibly better than Discovery", see this.
Black Prophecy isnt really based on freelancer. Sure, it's a similar game as far as playstyle and environment go, but it's an entirely new game with an entirely new engine, made for modern hardware.
i have no problems with that... but!!!... i am sure here are some players without a hightech PC like mine... maybe some players are excluded when we make disco consuming so much PC sources
A way a lone a last a loved a long the riverrun, past Eve and Adam's, from swerve of shore to bend of bay,
brings us by a commodius vicus of recirculation back to Howth Castle and Environs.
If it's being publicly released then it's not really stealing from another mod.
But I don't know if the mods would impliment it, many people on Discovery have old PCs and wouldn't be able to play on higher graphical versions of Freelancer.
Unless we had the option of using either version and still playing on the same server. Graphical changes are serverside as far as I know.
Would also significantly increase the size of the mod, I think. Not entirely sure..
About Role-Playing and how it will be applied on that mod. I could spot Sprolf and Bobthemanofsteel giving their thoughts on the matter.
I think that if Role-Playing could successfully be applied on that mod it could probably outmatch Discovery. However at the same time not everybody is a hard-core Starwars fan (like myself) so I think I will stick around here regardless.
But looking at the responses made by the various what-seems-to-be "high-profile Freeworlds members" I do not think Role-Playing will function so well there. According to one of them they have had five years history of basically "shooting the crap outta each other" game-play with once or twice major Role-Playing events being glued in. Only one or two individuals felt the need to enforce Role-Playing rule-wise, I think rules are needed because the vast majority won't adhere to any gentleman's rule.
In the end, fancy graphics has never been the deciding factor for me when it comes to playing a certain game, or mod for that matter...
That's my take on it. Wish them all luck though.
P.S. I saw you Sprolf saying something about that you might leave Discovery due to this place having too many players and that certain negative behaviors tend to spawn out of it. I actually agree with you in one way looking back at the former Discovery versions and how many players we had back then, but yet at the same time I'm kinda glad we have constantly over 150 players online. You need those people whether for good or bad, else the game becomes tiny...

When I first heard of discovery from my oldest brother I was like, "WOW! Finally, my most favorite game of all time + multiplayer capability + freelancer lore accuracy = WIN!" And make no mistakes, playing this mod has been the best decision I had: in my 1 and 1/2 years here, I've read many stories, traded all throughout the galaxy, escaped some pirate misadventures, had some blunders, and made some great RP progress... ones that I'll be able to look back with pride and say, "I've made my mark, even how small it is."
IMO, this mod seems to be the best there is... and it saddens me to hear that in other mods out there Disco is talked bad about.
Sure, no mod is perfect: initially, I expected capital ships to be awesome war machines; I expected there would be a massive player base, and many active players sprawling around (1000 people); I expected a lot of things here...
... But none of them have been that bad enough to undermine my enjoyment here... The RP I've gotten involved in here has well been worth it... and the best of all, it's free!:P
Even if I've never played other mods, I say the Disco Mod is the best there is... Not because it's the biggest, but because it's got great content of RP and PVP combined...
DX9 would be something useful, but upping the polycount limit and adding a load of effects wouldn't be welcomed by most of the community that runs on older computers.
