I think something should be done about this problem. I have been attacked a lot by Freelance IFF ships with pirate ID. And you cant tell from a distance. It's extra annoying when your in a fight with unlawfulls and the freelancer is comming in to take you down.
I think pirate ID should automaticly make all lawfull ID's hostile, yust like with Nomad trail ID. In that way you wont get suprised by neutral looking ships. Thats better then pirate IFF, what would indeed advertise it to much and make it unworkable. The IFF should go completely with pirate ID then. So no Freelancer IFF, yust no IFF at all. Think this would work best.

Happy flights.
You need to read the Pirate ID infocard ... says in plain English that anyone flying with a Pirate ID must have either 1) an unlawful faction IFF or 2) a Freelancer IFF.
Don't blame the pirate for having a Freelancer IFF ... I'd rather fly around with NO IFF whatsoever ... or a Pirate IFF.
Pirate ID does repfix, makes just about anyone lawful hostile, even those which, by canon, shouldn't be (IMG). But just because you show up as red to him, doesn't mean he'll show up as red to you.
Note that Freelancers aren't lawful, and react accordingly.
