@ R3vange, your mistaken about latin being dead as an active language for over 1000 years, during the medieval ages it was the active language of the church. id say latin has been dead for lets say 400 years?

A Psalm out of the outcast history books.
The dons are our shepherds; I shall not want. They make us live with a cause; They lead us trough the still vasts of space. They restore our souls; They lead us in the paths of righteousness For The Orange Dream. Yai, though we fly through the valley of the shadow of death, we will fear no evil; For the Spirits are with us; Your leadership and Your cardamine, they comfort us. You prepare a safe home for us in the presence of our enemies; Surely goodness and mercy shall follow us All the days of our life; And we will dwell in the house of the outcasts Forever

Latin was a lively language in New-France and French-Canada until 1960, if only because of the Christian church.

I want to get off Mr. Igiss' wild ride.

latin isnt dead. it's used by the Vatican. every day. its also used in the medical professions, as the medical names for diseases, anatomy etc were translated to sound more impressive (really true). i mean, if your gp said your leg pain was due to 'piriformis syndrome' you'd nod appreciatively, but if he said 'pear-shaped muscle syndrome' your response might well be 'lolwut?'

as for being dead in every day speech, i use broken spanish, pig latin, terrible french, some english, and the french/spanish/latin/romanian circle of friends - alright, girls im chatting up - we can form an understanding. Latin is the basis of the majority of the romantic languages. Greek is the basis of latin, as the defeat of (spurious detail of greek commander that i can't remember and cba to look up) meant he decamped to italy and founded the roman empire.

the actual corsairs were from the barbary coast, of north africa. think libya. hence tripoli station.

as for mangling the spanish in the wiki... well, after 800+ years, any language will evolve eventually

"Nación Maltesa" is pretty much the official term for the outcast nation. Imho depends on your position in the society as what you consider yourself. If you are flying around as a pirating scoundrel it's more likely that you call yourself just an outcast instead of a maltese.
