Let's say for example that a pirate is parked next to a trade lane. They can shut off everything except weapons, then when a trader comes along they won't be detected and they can cut the lanes, then power up while the trader is wondering what's happening.
Of course there are other places for this, such as parking a ship near an enemy base and shutting down everything, so as to keep an eye on the base. And this gave me another idea: diverting power.
I doubt that this would work, but what if power could be diverted from systems such as shields and weapons and placed in the scanner to give extra detection range. So detecting ships 30k away, being able to click them at say 15k. Of course variance for different ships and different classes.
nope... if you have your wepons online you have your generator online too... so: your energie signature is visible on scanners

Indeed.
I for one would find this command useful for extending my RP.
Ships don't always need to keep the shields on when not in combat or hazardous situations like asteroid or radiation fields. A constant active energy shield would require a fair chunk of a ship's energy reserves, energy which can be useful for other things. It's not necessary to keep the shields on all the time in RP.
..how about increasing the power output of the ship when the shields are down. (like XWING games)
RP wise it will not matter because the ships power would already be full but in a fight, a fighter may choose to drop shield to get a few extra shots from guns before they are drained (increased power regen).
