Fighters and loadouts used for slamming gunboats?

Simple. Full pulse on the guns or on the torp slot. Preferably with either an inferno or Tizzies for energy efficiency since you'll need to deal a large continuous stream of shield damage. Standard civvy pulse guns are probably not going to cut it.

3 loadouts:
- Tizonas/MR/Nuke
- Inferno/Hullbusters/Nuke - Use energy efficient code guns.
- Debilitators/MR/Screamer

All of these will require patience to pull a kill off - and you'll only be able to do it against a lesser skilled gunboat pilot ('cause if you shieldrun, the gunboat will also be shielded again)

I have trouble hitting fighters with the MR while unshielded and an inferno is out of the question.

If I were to pick a ship for hunting gunboats, I would pick a bomber, but I want to be able to fight fighters effectively as well.

Learn to aim so well with the snac you're considered to be inhuman. You'd be effective against fighters that way as well, it works, there are living examples. Boss..Tomo...Joe..many more whose name's don't come to mind at the moment.

So, what is a good balance between hull busting and shield busting when you need to be able to deal with gunboats?

Well, considering that a gunboat's armor, hp and firepower are all higher than your fighter's, there's not much of a balance of what to use against them...

And what type of setup to use is based on the gunboat. Though imo, generally, an effective setup would be:

I'd go with full shieldbusting guns, screamer and of course a MR. Problem with gunboats(especially the light ones) is that it's a bit difficult to take down the shield properly. With a shieldbusting setup such as that, you can take down the shield rather easily, the MR can do the hull work.

Or, just take heavy codenames, and the general 2 shield busters. Picking a nuke or Screamer, doesn't really matter, a normal loadout can kill gunboats as well, it's all based on skill, although, as said above, imo, that would be the best loadout to deal with gunboats.

Do not be fooled though, no matter what your setup, taking down a gunboat with a fighter will take time. Even if you're unbeaten at PvP and the gunboat is some lower than average player, it WILL take time. And that time can get longer based on the gunboat pilot's skill, and his armor. For instance....going against someone like Spazzy with a cap8 tridente. Chances are you're gonna get ripped apart.

But ye, there's no real setup to killing gunboats, all on skill, however the all-shieldbusting guns + screamer + MR is really effective.

Another thing you can try: Just gank the gunboat with loads of fighters, works in the Taus.

Get a Corsair Mafic.

2 Coladas, 5 Tizzie turrets, SNAC and Screamer and you'll be able to take down pretty much any Gunboat you meet with relative ease, including Nomad turret Scorpions, it's -that- powerful.


Though if you're looking for a VHF to take on Gunboats, either get an Inferno Sabre, or become extremely good with mines and rely on Screamers, as the only real problem when fighting a Gunboat in a Fighter is it's shield.

Monte's idea would work perfectly as well, although, just a sidenote to anyone planning to use it.

Mafics are easier to hit compared with VHFs, so make sure you're at least decent in a mafic before taking a gunboat head on

When I was a little kid I was bullied in my Oucast by Hydras and Lolnecks, then I bought Inferno Full Kraken Screamer sabre named it GB's.Nightmare and I was never bullied again. True story. Even If the boat is CAU8 I'm a persistent little frakk. To see their frustration not being able to do anything and get beaten in the process however is as rewarding as any disco experience can be.

Another one me in "my special" Sabre and one more razor sabre can bring down any capital ship save for dreads and CAU8 BC
