Hopefully it'll perform better when fixed. Cool concept otherwise. I'm guessing Smugglers could get an exempt from this mechanic, though? Or maybe give them a command of sorts to align their reputation with the faction they want to smuggle for.

I absolutely love the idea of the cargo being restricted by the ID you carry.

For example, how much easier would it have been when we all first started if when on a lawful ID and trying to buy something which was RP Contraband for that ID if a console message came up saying something like "Sorry, you can't purchase "X Commodity" because "Faction ID" wouldn't ever touch "X Commodity" - To haul "X Commodity" Please use another character from "X Faction"

On the front of "Smuggler ID" - They are super rare but not unseen. The simple fix in my opinion is to allow it's neutral rep to all, add a line to the ID which states "Can carry up to 3600 of any other commodities other than contraband".

If a smuggler is taking legal cargo to an illegal/unlawful destination- it's still smuggling. The 3600 cargo limit for the goods is purely to fall in line with not smashing other defined ID's- 3600 seems to be the Freelancer one(or is it 4300?).

Sanction for carrying more than 3600/4300 of "non illegal goods" could be that you simply lose the ID via admin intervention.

I'd love to have one or two units of lots of random commodities to "hide" what I'm actually smuggling... or am I smuggling? Muahahahhaha

If commodities MUST be touched by the rep sheet, then maybe let's go back to what someone suggested some time back: preferential prices for allies. Because ally or not, Outcasts WILL sell Cardamine to anyone and everyone. Corsairs - Artifacts. Coalition - Volgograd Ordinances. And so on. As for Corpos, why would they not sell their HRCs to Freelancers that are neutral to them? Isn't in their interest to have a larger market as possible?

I didn't even expect the intension being to prevent unlawfuls getting their hands on normal goods via Freelancers etc.

If that is the intension then this mod has gone to pot.

I was sure this was a measure to enhance rather than further cripple...

The other way around: Freelancers and what-not getting their hands on Contraband is getting crippled. And this might make sense from a gameplay perspective, but not (imo) from an inRP perspective. *shrugs* in the end, whatever it will be, we, as players, will adapt to it.

tl;dr:

This seems to just be about shitting on silent powertraders. I LOVE shitting on silent powertraders. I think this rep thing is bad for immersion, and before it is ever implemented we should make all powertraders subject to regular PvP death rules and give that a test run.

I'll do something about my superiority complex when I cease to be superior.

the rule about commodities makes sense to me atleast cause now like the corsairs would really need to dock for example on liner hawai to get rid of them and hogosha take them from there to deliver it through the kusari space, same with the liberty rogues who can obtain them by delivery of corsairs.
That way the interaction btw factions would need to improve more.

other Contraband selling factions need middlesman aswell arent they?
or iam complete lost right now Big Grin

Rep for goods. Eh. I don't trade, but I know for a fact that this change makes building things awkward. Really Awkward. Not sure if that's a good thing or not but Eh. I normally have to buy my HRC goods off of an NPC base because by the time i come round to do anything, everyone's already traded the stock off of pobs.

And this doesn't exactly affect powertraders except for those using ONLY NPC route trading. This doesnt even address the issue of shitty powertrader interactions either, because it does not encourage them to roleplay any more than they did before. Healingp a symptom doesnt cure the cause. Maybe it needs more thought on implementation, maybe it simply needs a way for OFs to be able to utilise something to get this so those that do RP can continue to do RP as they have with Convoys etc. Either way, it was not a great change to just add.

Community is mixed about it, with a heavy lean towards the negative impact aspect. Need to find a way that alleviates this and enhances the gameplay experience for those who will be interacting with this loop of gameplay.

It's very likely rep requirements for (high value) commodities will return at some point, but we'll need to do a lot more work to properly support it. The fact that it's barely communicated by the game is the biggest issue. The UI doesn't grey out items you lack rep for, nor does it tell you just how much rep you need with which faction to sort it out.

If we can sort out the interface issues and apply it in a more intelligent, less invasive way (0.6 is a pretty aggressive rep requirement) we'll look into it again.

I'm not sure if this is the correct place or not, but this has to be some form of oversight?

This kills off one of the most player rich-interactive Cardi runs there is. Please return passage via baffin like it's been for 20+ years.

Edit: On the total plus side; I ACTUALLY just got scanned by a NPC police scanning my cargo :O

Once you bring that back, don't forget to remove some fixed Id rep hack that serves no purpose anymore and will lock people out. E.g: all house planet are under police control and some hrc are sold there.
